We are looking for a hands-on System Development Engineer to develop mechatronics and software tools for mechanical testing of flight hardware. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging opportunity to work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality, and reliability.
Key job responsibilities
Test Design and Analysis: Analyze hardware requirements to design, develop, and maintain test automation software and data infrastructure used in satellite development and qualification.
Hardware and Software Integration: Integrate mechanical components, automation controls, electronics, sensors, and software systems to aid in the delivery of hardware test and development solutions (mechanical and mechatronics focus).
Software Architecture: Design, write, and deploy software solutions that automate test execution and the post processing of complex data to determine viability of flight hardware. Build modular systems that enable faster deployments and more robust operation.
Design for Reliability: Build production test systems that run consistently and handle errors gracefully. Push testing earlier in the process and chase down root cause of problems to prevent recurring issues.
Collaboration: Lead and participate in design reviews, and risk assessments, to contribute to the continuous improvement of satellite hardware performance. Work concurrently with the design engineers to provide design for testability (DFT) feedback throughout the design process.
A day in the life As a Project Kuiper Test Automation Engineer, you will own the design and implementation of automated test equipment used to validate satellite hardware designs from initial prototypes, though functional testing, and into pilot production. You will work with design and manufacturing teams to specify test equipment requirements, develop test plans, and execute test campaigns to support development and production test initiatives. You will collaborate with teammates to build scalable test systems that enable iterative improvement. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and comfortable operating in a fast-paced development environment.
About the team This team is organized within the satellite mechanical design team to accelerate the design iteration process and ensure on-time delivery of the most stable and successful product possible. The tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on new and exciting responsibilities as required to ensure project success. Expect to be deployed to complex problems and novel technical challenges that push you to develop new skills. You’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. Basic
