Top 3 responsibilities

  • Hardware: develop hardware verification test plans, perform board-level testing (functional, EMC), ensure compliance (UL, ATEX, IECEX), support IEC 61508 Functional Safety

  • Firmware: design/develop automated test scripts, document and execute verification tests, generate test reports, assist with lab audits and test firmware/hardware builds

  • Documentation & reports: contribute to test reports and product design documentation

Must-have skills

  • Pursuing bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or similar

  • Basic programming (C++, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, LabVIEW)

  • Basic circuit theory knowledge; experience with microprocessors, digital/analog, CPLDs/FPGAs

  • Experience with power electronics or motors

  • Experience with design capture tools; ability to work from schematics

  • Familiarity with CAD, 3D modeling, ERP/SAP, Matlab

  • Experience in industrial automation environments (PLC or drives programming)

  • Experience using Agile methodology

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional hands-on hardware test experience beyond basics

Full Description

Job Description

  • Our Test interns work with a team of engineers and industry professionals to develop and test hardware and firmware to optimize industrial operations. You will have the opportunity to be a significant contributor, while getting comprehensive exposure to the business structure of the company and how we are helping our customers bring the Connected Enterprise to life.

Our test roles fall into 2 categories

Hardware Test: Develop test requirements and execute hardware verification test plans for board level functional testing, EMC validation, Certification Agency compliance (UL, ATEX, IECEX), and Functional Safety (IEC 61508). Perform programming, analysis, and troubleshooting of electronic hardware prototypes. Contribute to associated product design documentation and test reports.

Firmware Test: if you like pushing products to their limits to meet the rigid standards of industrial components, you will be interested in these activities, which include: design and development of scripts for automating test procedures, documenting of test procedures, execution of test procedures for verification of product functionality (manual/automated), creation of test reports, assistance with lab audit/improvement activities, assist with build and commissioning of test firmware and hardware platforms.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited college or university.
  • Basic programming (C++, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript, LabVIEW).
  • Basic knowledge of circuit theory and operation, including microprocessors, digital logic devices, analog and/or DC-power conversion, programmable devices (CPLDs, FPGAs).
  • Experience with Power Electronics or motors.
  • Experience with design capture tools.
  • Be able to work with schematic drawings.
  • Familiarity with tools such as CAD, Creoparametic, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), 3D Modeling, SAP, Matlab.
  • Experience with industrial automation environments including PLC or drives programming.
  • Experience using Agile methodology.

Compensation

  • The compensation for this role is $22-32 hourly.
