Compensation: The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $134,200 to $184,600. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base pay is only one part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
Description
Senior Systems Test Engineers at Photonic are part of the Quantum Systems Integration team, and are responsible for defining, creating, and executing tests on Photonic’s quantum computers. Your expertise in understanding how to test complex systems and report critical metrics is essential for the development of quantum computers that provide commercial value.
Your work will influence directly how Photonic’s fault-tolerant utility-scale distributed quantum computer is used and operated.
You'll work closely with high-performing teams of scientists, product engineers, and business units on a range of topics. You will enjoy the thrill of learning new technology and new science, while bringing your significant algorithm development knowledge, open mind, and creativity to tackle key challenges as we build the world’s first truly scalable quantum computing system.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
Design, engineer, and execute tests and benchmarking of Photonic quantum computers. Implement scalable code to interface with distributed quantum hardware. Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites that cover functionality, performance, stability, and scalability. Creatively solve system level problems to “make it work”. Examples can include exploring novel tests for debugging, suggesting improvements to hardware and software stack based on System level learnings, supporting troubleshooting efforts across involved teams. Collaborate across diverse teams of technical experts. Contribute to test coverage metrics, quality gates, and release criteria for internal milestones and customer deliveries. Effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
MSc or MEng in physics, engineering, or equivalent education, with 5+ years of relevant experience in industry. Quantum background is a plus. Excellent coding skills and ability to work in shared code repositories, preferably Python. Experience in handling and controlling highly sensitive and complex lab instrumentation. Experience in implementing automation of measurements and report generation. Systems engineering approach to solving problems in an ambiguous environment. Excellent analytical and debugging skills; you love chasing down hard problems. Excellent communication skills and ability to express complex technical concepts in a clear and easy-to-understand way. Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities. Outstanding teamwork and communication skills to interface with many disciplines.
