Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Development Quality Engineer (DQE) to join our gaming project team. As a DQE, you will work closely with game developers, QA engineers, and build/release teams to design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks that ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of our games across platforms.
You will be embedded within development teams, focusing on building automation-first quality practices that speed up delivery and ensure exceptional player experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain automation frameworks for functional, regression, performance, and UI testing of games. Develop automated test scripts using Selenium, Appium, and/or Alt-Tester for cross-platform testing (PC, Mobile, Console). Collaborate with developers to build unit, integration, and end-to-end automation suites for new and existing features. Build automated systems for save/load validation, multiplayer sync, performance metrics (FPS, memory, CPU), and gameplay loops. Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous validation of game builds. Work with Build Engineers to implement smoke test gating for builds. Identify, analyze, and report automation results, including debugging and triaging failures. Partner with QA engineers to extend automation into regression suites and long-play (soak) testing. Ensure automation coverage for cross-platform compatibility, device fragmentation, and controller/input methods. Mentor and guide developers and QA engineers on automation best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
3–6 years of hands-on automation experience in software or game testing projects. Strong expertise in Selenium, Appium, and/or Alt-Tester for test automation. Solid programming experience in Python, Java, and C# (at least two required, familiarity with all three preferred). Experience with test automation frameworks (PyTest, JUnit, NUnit, TestNG, etc.). Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.). Strong knowledge of game engines (Unity, Unreal) and ability to hook automation into engine builds. Experience with API and service-level testing. Strong debugging, log analysis, and defect triaging skills. Familiarity with version control systems (Git, Perforce). Ability to work collaboratively with developers, QA teams, build engineers, and producers.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with performance testing tools for FPS, GPU, and memory profiling. Knowledge of multiplayer/network test automation. Familiarity with cloud-based device farms (e.g., BrowserStack, AWS Device Farm). Experience in scripting bots for long-play or AI-driven test scenarios. Exposure to DevOps practices in gaming projects.
Soft Skills
Strong communication skills to work with cross-functional teams. Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic game development environment. Passion for games and gaming technology.
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, or a related field. Equivalent work experience in test automation for software or games will also be considered.
