Must-have skills

  • Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (Life Fellowship preferred)

  • ≥10 years post-qualification actuarial experience; ≥5 years in senior validation, modelling, or assumption governance

  • Advanced IFRS 17 and SAM valuation knowledge; strong Prophet model development/validation

  • Deep understanding of financial reinsurance, regulatory frameworks, and balance sheet management

Nice-to-haves

  • Governance/process improvement experience

Psybergate is an IT company that builds bespoke software solutions and provides highly skilled resources to its clients.

We are looking for a Head Actuarial Assumption (Model Validation) to join our financial services client based in Sandton on a permanent role.

What You Will Be Doing

Prepare and execute assumption review and model development validation workplans. Review actuarial assumptions including lapses, mortality, expenses, and other key inputs used in long contract boundary models. Review and pressure test contract boundary assumptions across IFRS 17 and SAM bases. Review and validate gross and financial reinsurance Prophet models and associated outputs for both existing and new models. Perform validation on SAM and IFRS 17 models, including ORSA projections. Review IBNR triangulation methodologies and outputs. Provide high-level review of IFRS 17 and SAM annual results. Document, communicate, and present validation findings to Balance Sheet Management functions and broader stakeholders. Work closely with the outsourced Head of Actuarial Function to provide assurance on validation activities and outcomes. Contribute to actuarial governance, review processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.

What We Are Looking For

Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (Life Fellowship preferred). Life Practising Certificate (advantageous) +10 years post-qualification actuarial experience.

  • 5 years' experience in a senior validation, modelling, or actuarial assumption governance role. Advanced understanding of Life valuations across IFRS 17 and SAM. Strong Prophet model development and validation capability. Advanced understanding of financial reinsurance mechanics. Deep knowledge of actuarial standards, regulatory frameworks, and balance sheet management practices.
