Assist the Automation Engineering team with maintenance and programming of automation controls and design/programming of automation solutions that support departmental cost reduction projects in our manufacturing facility. The Automation Engineering Intern will be given the opportunity to complete a project of their own and will be encouraged to contribute ideas and suggestions.
Responsibilities
Learn how to initiate and manage a project, develop a Bill of Materials (BOM), and execute cross-departmental collaboration. Design and model a control panel with electrical schematics using Autodesk software. Program a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) to complete the desired functionality for the project. Gain experience building, wiring and troubleshooting control panels using the appropriate software and equipment. Create documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and technical reports, to support automation projects. Assist experienced Automation Engineers in designing, programming, testing and troubleshooting automation systems.
Education & Skills Required
A student actively seeking a post-secondary degree in a related Engineering or Engineering Technology program (Mechatronic, Electrical, or Industrial program required). Ability to commute to our Monongahela, PA - this is a fully onsite role. Experience using Autodesk Inventor required. Preference will be given to candidates with course work in Automation or Controls Engineering, familiarity with PLCs and HMIs, and knowledge of writing control panels. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint preferred. Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend and navigate in tight spaces. Will need to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
