The Maintenance and Smart Application team is looking to add a MES Automation Engineer to support data gathering, manufacturing process control, automation of processes and all the digital tools that enhance manufacturing of ABB E-Mobility products.
In this role you will be driving the digital transformation of production processes by designing and maintaining Manufacturing Execution System (MES) solutions and processes closely collaborating with Industrial Engineering, Production and Quality teams, as well as a network of global suppliers, to ensure successful deployment, continuous improvement and operational excellence of our solutions.
Your Responsibilities
Design technical requirements, configure, and deploy MES applications that support day-to-day manufacturing operations. Create and maintain clear technical documentation, user guides, and compliance reports to ensure robust system implementation. Build custom interfaces, dashboards, and reporting tools, collecting and analyzing production data for real-time visibility and performance optimization Identified automation opportunities within manufacturing workflows and developed innovative solutions to improve efficiency, minimize downtime, and enhance process traceability Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for MES features and integrations to ensure reliability and compliance with operational and regulatory needs. Provide technical support for MES and automated shop-floor applications, maintaining and updating systems for performance, scalability, and uptime. Collaborate closely with Industrial Engineering, Production, and Quality teams, as well as global suppliers, to ensure smooth deployment and continuous improvement across sites. Diagnosed and resolved communication issues between shop-floor devices, PLC-based automated lines, test equipment, and MES using industrial protocols
Your Background
You have a Master’s degree in Computer, Electrical, Automation, or Mechanical Engineering
Knowledge of Industrial Protocols: OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, and other communication standards. Knowledge of Java scripting Language for custom MES applications
API Development: RESTful and SOAP APIs for system interoperability. Fluency in English and in Italian
Data Analytics: Using BI tools and analytics platforms for performance monitoring.
Control Systems Knowledge: Understanding of sensors, actuators, and industrial automation hardware. Strong PLC, automation & integration experience Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams
