Full Description

QAQC Technician

URE is seeking a skilled QAQC and Commissioning Technician to ensure all solar construction projects meet construction specifications. This role supports both Construction and Operations teams and collaborates with site supervisors, subcontractors, and staff across all departments. Candidates should have construction and electrical experience and a strong understanding of solar construction processes. The position requires disciplined organization of schedules, documents, and plans, along with the ability to meet deadlines.

Core Responsibilities & Technical Knowledge

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including NEC (National Electrical Code), IBC (International Building Code), OSHA regulations, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Complete thorough documented QA/QC checks on all aspects of installation across civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural scopes.
  • Verify installations meet project specifications, approved drawings, and manufacturer equipment specifications for PV modules, inverters, trackers, transformers, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of equipment submittals, datasheets, installation manuals, and certifications to confirm compliance with contract specifications and industry standards (NEC, IBC, IEC, UL, IEEE, OSHA).
  • Perform field inspections across all construction phases, including civil works, mechanical installations, module mounting, and electrical systems, to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Produce quality work that meets the requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards, while following company-wide safety practices, policies, and training.
  • Provide prompt response to any assigned actions, tasks, and quality-related inquiries to maintain project momentum and address issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of solar installation and civil construction processes from site preparation through final energization.
  • You are responsible for following the URE Environmental, Health and Safety Manual, and to be aware of, follow and enforce Company safety protocols at all times.

Pre-Construction & Design Phase Support

  • Participate in the project design phase to develop an informed understanding that enables adequate Support during construction and organized QA/QC site visits.
  • Provide pre-construction support by reviewing civil, structural, and electrical design plans with a critical eye, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Identify potential constructability issues, quality risks, and conflicts with specifications during design review to prevent problems during construction.

Commissioning & Energized Work

  • Review, understand, and execute commissioning procedures, including functional testing, performance verification, and system startup activities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work safely in and around energized equipment while adhering to all electrical safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Support the commissioning manager in transitioning the project from construction to operations through proper documentation turnover and capturing lessons learned.

Documentation & Quality Systems

  • Develop and maintain inspection plans (ITPs), schedules, and quality control checklists tailored to project-specific requirements.
  • Create standardized inspection templates for repetitive activities such as pile installation, tracker assembly, module installation, DC/AC electrical work, and grounding systems
  • Maintain comprehensive daily inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and punch list documentation with detailed photographic evidence capturing before, during, and after conditions
  • Produce thorough photo documentation that clearly shows inspection points, deficiencies, corrective actions, and quality verification with proper labeling and organization
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with the ability to deliver detailed, professional inspection reports utilizing company templates
  • Utilize the Procore construction management platform for document control, inspection reporting, RFI tracking, submittal management, and collaboration with project stakeholders
  • Leverage Smartsheet for project tracking, quality metrics dashboards, task management, and cross-functional workflow coordination
  • Track and trend quality metrics, including defect rates, rework requirements, and contractor performance indicators

Department Development & Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the enhancement and growth of the QA/QC department by identifying opportunities to improve inspection processes, documentation workflows, and quality standards
  • Participate in developing standardized procedures, best practices, and lessons learned repositories that can be applied across multiple projects
  • Provide input on continuous improvement initiatives to increase inspection efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of quality control measures
  • Collaborate with leadership to refine QA/QC methodologies and adapt to evolving project requirements and industry innovations

Professional Development & Industry Knowledge

  • Commit to continual learning and professional development through training programs, certifications, and industry education opportunities
  • Stay current with evolving solar industry standards, emerging technologies, new equipment specifications, and updated code requirements
  • Actively engage with industry publications, technical bulletins, manufacturer updates, and regulatory changes affecting utility-scale solar construction
  • Participate in industry webinars and professional organizations to maintain expertise and bring innovative QA/QC practices to the organization

Collaboration, Coordination & Training

  • Coordinate closely with site managers and construction management teams to align quality objectives with project schedules and milestone requirements
  • Conduct QA/QC training sessions and toolbox talks for site managers and subcontractor crews on quality standards, inspection requirements, and proper installation techniques
  • Provide on-site coaching and guidance to subcontractors regarding workmanship expectations, specification compliance, and quality control self-inspection procedures
  • Facilitate pre-construction quality meetings with subcontractors to review project requirements, inspection hold points, and documentation expectations before work begins
  • Serve as liaison with Client, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and internal departments on quality-related matters and communicate quality expectations, review work plans, and verify corrective actions for identified deficiencies.

Skills Expected Understanding construction quality management principles and experience implementing QA/QC programs on industrial or renewable energy projects. Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, civil drawings, mechanical assembly details, and equipment technical specifications. Strong communication and training skills to effectively convey technical requirements to diverse field personnel and subcontractor teams. Flexible schedule and the ability to prioritize tasks, with strong capability to manage travel and office responsibilities efficiently. Knowledge of how to operate various hand tools necessary for critical inspection and verification tasks. Experience with or ability to quickly learn Procore construction management software and Smartsheet for project documentation, quality management workflows, and collaborative project tracking. Perform other duties as assigned or requested to support project success and organizational goals.

Training/Certification Requirements

  • You will need to obtain your OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E certifications within one month of employment.
  • If a valid CPR and First Aid certificate is not held, URE will make training arrangements including payment. Completion will be required within the first two months of employment.
  • A training plan to obtain the required certifications and increase your knowledge and office software skills will be provided following your first day of employment.

Location

  • Field 75% / Home Office 25%
  • Preference is given to candidates located in the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest.
  • Occasional travel to the company office located in Asheville, NC will be required for team meetings and collaboration.
