A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Product Engineer to join a specialist engineering team within a high-technology organisation operating in the optical communications and fibre-optic connectivity industry, supporting the development and introduction of advanced electro-optical products into manufacture.
This role performs the duties of the Product Engineer position and reports to a senior engineering stakeholder within the product and manufacturing organisation. The position is open to candidates from an Electronics, Production or Systems Engineering background.
Key Responsibilities Develop robust test solutions for verification and validation of product performance against defined requirements Support new product developments from design through to manufacture, including transfer of assembly and test processes into production Fault find and analyse complex integrated systems and subsystems using a structured and methodical approach Design, build, and maintain test equipment to support verification and production testing, including electro-optical systems Analyse test data and produce clear technical reports to support engineering and manufacturing decisions Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to improve test coverage, tooling capability, and team efficiency Create hardware and software-based test solutions to agreed budgets and timescales Define test procedures and tools to reduce reliance on specialist knowledge within manufacturing environments Generate test requirements for new designs entering volume manufacture Support manufacturing improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and supply chain standardisation Produce procurement specifications for third-party suppliers delivering ATE, bed-of-nails fixtures, and bespoke test platforms Support product introduction activities at volume manufacturing sites when required
The ideal candidate would have Experience in verification and validation within a product development or manufacturing environment Hands-on hardware test and debug experience on complex systems Exposure to electro-optical, electronic, or integrated system testing Software-based test development experience (e.g. Python, LabVIEW) An understanding of assembly and test processes and their impact on quality and reliability Experience supporting products transitioning from development into production
The ideal candidate must have A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or physics 3–5 years of relevant industry experience A strong test background with proven fault-finding capability Clear and effective communication skills with engineers and stakeholders A structured, organised approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities A strong commitment to quality, delivery, and continuous improvement Right to work in the United Kingdom
