Location: Little Island, Cork | Permanent Role Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Automation Engineer to join a leading global manufacturing operation based in Little Island. This site operates within a fast-paced, high-volume production environment supporting internationally recognised consumer brands. The facility is part of a multi-functional global organisation spanning Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, R&D, Finance, HR and IT. We are seeking a collaborative, technically strong Automation Engineer who thrives in a dynamic manufacturing environment and is passionate about driving efficiency, standardisation, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day automation and manufacturing support across site operations. Drive standardisation, optimisation, and continuous improvement of automation systems. Play a key role in the review, approval, and execution of validation protocols. Support capital projects as assigned. Develop and/or review URS documentation for process and automation systems. Act as an escalation point for technical issues across automation and IT infrastructure. Create and maintain operational “as-built” documentation for plant control systems. Ensure all automation changes are executed through formal change control processes and do not compromise safety, environmental, or quality standards. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to enhance plant efficiency and system performance. Assist in developing standard data structures to support integration of plant-floor control systems. Propose modifications to systems, equipment, and processes to improve safety, increase efficiency, and support operational goals. Liaise with equipment vendors to ensure compliance with specifications, including participation in kick-off meetings and pre-FAT inspections. Qualifications & Experience Degree-qualified in Engineering (or related discipline). Minimum 5 years’ experience in process control, PLC/SCADA systems, and automation infrastructure. Proven track record delivering high-impact automation solutions within manufacturing environments. Experience in automation validation in line with GAMP and cGMP standards. Strong technical background in Allen-Bradley PLCs, Wonderware InTouch, InSQL, Profibus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and EtherNet (advantageous). Ability to manage and prioritise multiple high-impact projects simultaneously. Strong stakeholder communication skills and cross-functional collaboration experience.
