Senior Automation Engineer – QA (API Tech Lead) Our financial client in the North Carolina area is seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation Engineer – QA to help drive quality transformation across our enterprise platform. This role will play a critical part in implementing a shift-left testing strategy while partnering closely with Engineering and DevOps teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
We are looking for someone who thrives in modern cloud-native environments, is passionate about API automation, and brings deep expertise in CI/CD-integrated testing frameworks.
What You’ll Do Champion a culture of quality with a focus on zero defects reaching production Partner cross-functionally to understand enterprise quality standards and drive adoption of core testing processes Lead and implement shift-left testing strategies as the organization re-architects its technology platform Collaborate with DevOps teams to fully automate testing within CI/CD pipelines Design, build, and enhance automation frameworks across all testing layers (unit, business logic, contract, functional, usability, performance) Participate in product design reviews to ensure quality practices are embedded early in the SDLC Develop and document test environment, container, and test data management strategies Analyze and decompose user stories to define automation requirements Collaborate with QA Engineers to build comprehensive test plans and automation strategies Provide hands-on mentorship and training to team members on automation best practices
Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in test automation engineering, with strong API-based testing expertise Strong coding proficiency in TypeScript and/or JavaScript Deep experience with REST API testing best practices Experience testing GraphQL APIs, including schema validation Extensive experience automating API tests, including use of mocks, stubs, and virtual services Hands-on experience with AWS services (CloudWatch, Lambda, DynamoDB) Experience working with CI/CD tools and build systems (Git, GitLab, Docker) Experience with load testing tools such as LoadRunner or Gatling Experience with tools such as Postman or Insomnia Experience with open-source frameworks such as Jest Strong understanding of white-box testing principles Deep knowledge of SDLC best practices including code reviews, version control, CI/CD, and test suite maintenance
