Role & seniority: Backend Test Automation learner / aspiring engineer (entry to junior level) enrolled in a practical backend QA course.
Stack/tools: Postman, Newman, Playwright; JavaScript/TypeScript; API testing, CI integration; authentication flows; test architecture and data-driven testing.
Design, automate, and execute API tests; validate business rules and data structures.
Implement automated API validation in code-based workflows and reusable components.
Integrate automated tests into CI pipelines and manage multi-step workflows (CRUD and chained requests).
Interest in technology and strong willingness to learn; comfortable in English (written and spoken).
Basic understanding of HTTP/REST and JSON data; foundational scripting capability (JavaScript/TypeScript a plus).
Schedule: 13 Apr 2026 β 6 May 2026; Mondays and Wednesdays, 7β10pm (evening/part-time).
Setting: Course hosted within a tech company; participation-based program (not a full-time role).
This course is designed to provide a solid and practical foundation in backend test automation using Postman, Newman, and Playwright, with JavaScript/TypeScript as the core programming languages.
Students will learn how to design, automate, and execute API tests, validate business rules, handle authentication flows, and integrate automated tests into CI pipelines.
The course goes beyond simple request validation, focusing on strategic backend quality, test architecture, and real-world automation practices aligned with modern development workflows.
Course Outline
Module 1: Backend Foundations & First API Calls
Introduction to fundamental backend concepts, client-server architectures, basics of HTTP, RESTful APIs, HTTP status codes, handling JSON data structures, making API calls with GET requests, understanding API responses, and validating essential data structures.
Module 2: Advanced API Calls & Response Validation
Students will explore additional API endpoints, work with query parameters and pagination, and perform deeper response validations. The focus is on analyzing JSON structures, validating arrays and nested objects, and strengthening critical backend testing thinking.
Module 3: Test Automation with Postman Scripts
This module introduces API test automation using Postman. Students will write JavaScript test scripts, create assertions, manage environment variables, and organize collections professionally. The goal is to transform manual API testing into structured, automated validation.
Module 4: Introduction to Playwright for API Testing
Students will transition from Postman to code-based automation using Playwright with JavaScript/TypeScript. This module introduces project structure, scalable test architecture, and automated API validation using a modern testing framework.
Module 5: Advanced API Automation & Test Architecture
This module deepens Playwright API automation by implementing reusable request contexts, data-driven testing strategies, and structured test organization. Students will learn how to build maintainable and scalable backend test suites.
Module 6: Integration Workflows & Data Validation*
Students will automate multi-step backend workflows such as CRUD operations and chained requests. The focus is on validating data consistency across requests and understanding integration-level testing scenarios.
