About the Role Valvoline is seeking a strategic and forward‑thinking Director of Quality Engineering to lead the organization’s enterprise-wide QA and QE initiatives. This leader will be responsible for driving a culture of quality, reliability, and continuous improvement across all technology platforms, digital products, and enterprise applications. Reporting directly to the CIO, the Director will define and execute a modern quality strategy that enables faster delivery, improved resilience, and superior customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities Quality Engineering Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute Valvoline’s enterprise Quality Engineering strategy aligned to IT and business priorities. Build a scalable QE operating model with an emphasis on automation, DevSecOps integration, and shift‑left practices. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Quality Engineering team, including managers, SDETs, automation engineers, and QA analysts. Champion engineering excellence, testability principles, and continuous improvement across the technology organization. Enterprise Quality Governance Establish and maintain enterprise QA/QE standards, policies, and frameworks to ensure consistency, compliance, and risk mitigation. Oversee the implementation of quality metrics, KPIs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability. Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure quality processes meet regulatory and internal audit requirements. Automation & Technology Enablement Drive adoption of automated testing frameworks for functional, performance, security, and regression testing. Evaluate and implement modern tools, technologies, and platforms that improve speed, repeatability, and coverage. Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to embed quality into the software development lifecycle. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Product, Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Business stakeholders to ensure quality is integrated throughout all project phases. Participate in strategic technology planning, roadmap prioritization, and release governance. Collaborate with vendors and partner organizations to ensure adherence to Valvoline’s quality standards. Operational Excellence Oversee quality planning and execution for enterprise releases, major technology initiatives, and production deployments. Establish efficient processes for defect management, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. Lead continuous improvement efforts to reduce defects, increase automation coverage, and improve cycle times.
Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field. 10+ years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership. Proven experience building or transforming QA/QE organizations toward automation and DevOps maturity. Strong expertise in testing methodologies, automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise software delivery. Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical digital platforms and enterprise systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional partnership skills.
Preferred Experience in retail, automotive services, or consumer product industries. Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), API testing, and microservices architectures. Experience managing global teams and vendor partnerships. Certifications such as ISTQB, SAFe, or equivalent.
