Salary: $140,000 - $170,000 / year
Role & seniority: Flight Test Engineer; early-hire, individual contributor with potential to lead flight-test processes within a small high-impact startup.
Stack/tools: UAV flight testing (full-scale and subscale); onboard/ground instrumentation; data analysis (Python, MATLAB or similar); telemetry and sensor integration; Linux/embedded platforms; collaboration across software, controls, and mechanical teams.
Plan, execute, and debrief flight test campaigns; serve as Test Director/GCS crew; ensure safety reviews.
Own instrumentation setup (aircraft and support systems) and validate autonomy, navigation, comms, and control during live ops.
Analyze flight logs/sensor data to identify system behaviors and drive design iterations; establish testing processes and reporting standards.
BS/MS in Aerospace, Robotics, Mechanical, CS, or related field.
Experience with flight tests, robotics field testing, or complex system validation.
Data analysis proficiency (Python, MATLAB); telemetry/instrumentation/sensor integration; control/autonomy understanding.
Linux-based/embedded systems experience; startup/fast-paced R&D exposure.
Interest in autonomy, AI, and aviation; fixed-wing experience a plus; Test Pilot School credentials a plus.

We are seeking a Flight Test Engineer to join our small but high-impact team. In this role, you will work in close collaboration with our CTO and own the execution, instrumentation, and analysis of flight test campaigns on our full scale and subscale UAVs. You will serve as the bridge between software, hardware, autonomy, and operations — ensuring that every test flight produces high-quality data, validated performance insights, and actionable engineering feedback. As an early hire in the flight test team, you’ll help establish Grid’s flight test processes, data validation standards, and safety protocols from the ground up. You’ll work closely with leadership and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure our systems are robust, reliable, and mission-ready.
