Overview

The Sr Hardware Automation Engineer solves key workflow problems in large, complex health systems. Supports a full technology stack of automated lab and software sequencing.

On-site South San Francisco

Responsibility

Applies principles, theories, and concepts from the broader industry to improve the Myriad platform. Own all aspects of the design process, prototyping, testing, and deployment for a fully automated robotic platform. Design layout, process, and custom components for a modular robotics platform by utilizing mechanical, electrical, and software expertise. Work with other development teams to integrate processes into custom robotic platform. Identify and drive process improvements to maximize the level of hands-free automation throughout the lab. Develop automation related documentation for effective operation and maintenance of automated equipment. Train and mentor junior Automation Engineers. Travel to Myriad locations as needed during certain project phases.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering, or related field required. 8+ years of experience with electro-mechanical design, assembly, wiring, and troubleshooting. 5+ years of experience integrating 3rd party devices (system integration). Experience with mechanical CAD software (SolidWorks, OnShape). Experience documenting designs (BOMs, drawings) and working with contract manufacturers. Proficiency with text-based PLC programming or Python and terminal usage. Demonstrated success in leading cross-functionally with multiple groups on projects.

Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements – light work or exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical Requirements – stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, pushing or pulling, and reaching. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.

The Bay Area compensation range for this role starts at $145,000, with a market midpoint of $183,000.
