What Your Job Will Be Like

Do you oversee onsite sample collection with professionalism and care in compliance with federal and state regulations? If so, Organization 03733, Acute Care, is currently seeking an experienced Drug Testing Phlebotomist for Sandia National Laboratories employees through the Employee Health and Wellbeing Organization!

The selected candidate will oversee and coordinate Sandia's onsite drug and alcohol testing program, in compliance with applicable federal and state laws. They will follow all relevant regulations, including HIPAA and other privacy guidelines, and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

On any given day, one may be called upon to

Identify best methods for retrieving specimens in lab Call employees, schedule and prepare specimens, and perform correct drug screening procedures Collect blood and urine samples for lab and drug testing; adhere to chain-of-custody procedures to maintain specimen integrity Properly label, package, and prepare specimens for transport Accurately record patient information, test requests, and other relevant details Ensure collection supplies are adequately stocked; equipment is properly maintained Greet patients, explain collection processes, and ensure patient comfort and safety during sample collection Perform other related tasks such as point-of-care testing, data entry, and customer service

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$47,400 - $87,200

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

A High School diploma or equivalent, plus 3 years' related experience in a phlebotomy lab A current, active phlebotomy certification The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

5 years' experience in a phlebotomy lab A Medical Review Officer Assistant (MROA) certification A Certified Professional Collector (CPC) certification Knowledge of and experience with direct observation of urine collections for drug screening

Proficiency with the following

  • Verifying test requisitions by reading test orders
  • Verifying patients by reading patient identification
  • Obtaining blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
  • Maintaining specimen integrity by using aseptic techniques, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures
  • Tracking collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
  • Knowledge of and experience with maintaining quality results by following department procedures, testing schedules, and recording results in a quality-control log while identifying and reporting needed changes
  • The ability to maintain the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude and maintaining professional boundaries with clients
  • The ability to consistently adhere to business policy and procedure; model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values

About Our Team

The Employee Health & Wellbeing Operations center provides a variety of health and wellness related services to employees. Occupational and preventive medicine programs, health management, case management, physical therapy, international travel, acute care, and emergency medical services are all conducted within this Center.

Posting Duration

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements For MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
