Role & seniority: Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (EME) Test Engineer, mid-to-senior level (preferably 5+ years in spaceflight avionics EMC testing; minimum 3+ years).
Stack/tools: EMC testing for MIL-STD-461/DO-160/DO-1541A; EMC lab equipment and configurations; test software development and reporting; CST, HFSS for EMI/EMC modeling; hardware-in-the-loop test systems.
Act as subject matter expert for EMI/EMC testing across avionics, payload, and antenna subsystems; develop test requirements, READiness reviews, and test reports.
Develop/maintain EMC test software, generate test reports, calibrate/maintain EMC equipment, and execute MIL-STD-461 and/or DO-160 tests.
Define, schedule, and coordinate EMI/EMC tests for all satellite subsystems and vehicle level; troubleshoot/testing with Avionics teams and support harness/test rack definitions.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent; 3+ years in hardware design or testing.
Knowledge of EMC standards for aerospace (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1541A, DO-160, etc).
Experience with EMC test equipment, test procedures, test readiness reviews, and failure investigation; ability to model environments (e.g., CST/HFSS) is a plus.
5+ years in spaceflight avionics EMC testing.
Experience with EMC test software development, qualification procedures, and EME testing across multiple subsystems.

Key job responsibilities
Role
Working with hardware design teams as a subject matter expert in electromagnetic environmental effects testing throughout the development process, including: Test requirements; Test Readiness Reviews; EMC test and support; Test Report Documentation Development and maintenance of EMC test software and report generation Support of EMC equipment calibration and maintenance Completion of EMC test procedures and test reports, support teams with test configurations, and perform testing to the MIL-STD-461 and/or DO-160 requirements Collaboration with teams for definition and support of LRU cable harnesses, loads, and test racks for EMC testing Definition and coordination of EMI/EMC test scheduling for all satellite electronic subsystems and vehicle/spacecraft level Troubleshooting/Development investigation testing in conjunction with Avionics teams across Amazon Leo

A day in the life
The Amazon Leo Electrical Engineering team is responsible for architecture and development of satellite bus systems as well as working across payloads on design and development of complex communications systems. In addition to satellite systems, we also play a key role in the development of the Leo Customer Terminal.
The team delivers in multiple areas such as bus development, payload development, embedded SW, signal integrity, power, PCB development, and EMC test. The team includes hardware-in-the-loop development for satellite systems to build out an extensive set of test systems for validated satellite systems.
About The Team
The Amazon Leo Electrical Engineering team is responsible for the development, test, and integration of multiple satellite systems.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent degree, or experience 3+ years of experience in a hardware design or testing role
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of experience in spaceflight avionics testing as an electromagnetic environmental effects engineer Experience with using analysis tools to define requirements for emissions and susceptibility of avionics components Knowledge and understanding of EMC industry standards and specifications for aerospace (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1541A, DO-160 etc) Experience modelling electromagnetic environments using computational SW (CST, HFSS, etc). Experience with EMC lab test equipment, setup, and configurations Experience with Qualification Procedures, Reports, Test Readiness Reviews, and failure reporting and investigation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
