Job Title: Senior Test & Development Engineer
Department: Testing & Development
Location: Hybrid – Onsite when required – Midlands area.
We are LUMINA a start-up redefining the future of heavy machinery through next-generation electrification and advanced technology. Our mission is to create high-performance, safe, and efficient heavy equipment that leads the industry in capability and sustainability.
We are motivated, highly accountable, and work together to deliver at pace. We offer likeminded individuals the opportunity to truly own their own area and role within the team; shaping strategy and being fully responsible for delivery.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Test & Development Engineer to support the prototype build, setup, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of vehicle and machine electrical and hydraulic systems at bench (machine-to-bench/yellow board/Labcar), rig, and early prototype Machine level.
The role requires an engineer who is equally comfortable working hands-on in the lab environment and workshop, collaborating with hardware and software engineering teams to diagnose issues, identify root causes, and drive robust system solutions through to maturity and development.
This position is critical to ensuring early prototype build and control quality, fast issue resolution, and effective feedback into design and software development loops.
What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute HV, LV and hydraulic testing on the labcar, prototype machines and subsystem test rigs. Full ownership of LUMINA test assets and execution whilst at internal and external test facilities. Support prototype build, commissioning and launch, including HV safe bring-up, hydraulic flushing, pressure setting and functional verification. Define, build and operate electrical, thermal and hydraulic test rigs for component and sub-system validation prior to vehicle integration. Develop test plans, procedures and acceptance criteria; install and manage HV-safe electrical instrumentation and hydraulic pressure, flow and temperature measurement. Perform functional, performance, thermal and durability testing under representative load cases and fault conditions. Diagnose and resolve electrical and hydraulic issues (e.g. isolation faults, inverter trips, pre-charge failures, CAN issues, leaks, pressure instability, valve response). Ensure compliance with HV and hydraulic safety procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices. Generate detailed test reports, summarizing test results, issues encountered, and recommendations for improvement. Engage with cross-functional teams to provide feedback and support ongoing development based on test outcomes.
