Hardware Test Engineer – Test Execution & Debugging
Location: Onsite – Mountain View, CA Role Overview We are seeking a hands-on Hardware Test Engineer to execute, monitor, and debug hardware tests across a variety of components and systems. This role is highly lab-focused and works closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams responsible for HW testing infrastructure. The ideal candidate is execution-driven, comfortable debugging failures, and experienced working in Linux environments with some Python scripting capability.
Key Responsibilities Test Execution & Debugging Execute established test procedures on hardware components and systems, including PCBs, embedded systems, and prototypes. Monitor tests conducted in internal and external labs to ensure correct execution and accurate data capture. Perform initial debugging and failure analysis to identify root causes of hardware and/or software issues encountered during testing. Use standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and DAQs to probe, measure, and troubleshoot issues. Set up and maintain mechanical test fixtures using aluminum extrusion, hand tools, and scrappy prototype-style setups. Support thermal, vibration, and environmental testing using chambers, vibe tables, and liquid chillers. Data Analysis & Reporting Analyze test data to validate product performance against defined requirements. Document and log defects clearly and thoroughly in internal tracking systems, including steps to reproduce, observed behavior, and system configuration. Prepare concise and accurate test reports summarizing execution status, results, and key findings. Communicate test results, issues, and recommendations with cross-functional teams including Design, Firmware, Mechanical, and Software Engineering. General Lab & Team Support Maintain organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness of the lab and test equipment. Assist senior engineers with re-testing fixes and verifying defect resolutions. Contribute to continuous improvement of test procedures, tooling, and workflows.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Strong hands-on hardware testing and debugging experience in a lab environment. Python experience for test automation, data analysis, or working within larger testing frameworks. Experience working in a Linux environment, including basic networking knowledge. Familiarity with common communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART. Experience with standard lab and test equipment (thermal chambers, vibration tables, liquid chillers, power supplies, electronic loads, DAQs). Multidisciplinary background across EE and ME (depth in one, working knowledge of the other). Prior experience with hardware projects, prototypes, or lab-based testing.
Desired Qualifications Experience with Bazel build automation. Hands-on experience performing thermal and vibration (vibe) testing. Familiarity with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and CAN-FD. Experience testing or operating brushless motors.
Additional Notes This is a fully onsite role in Mountain View. The hiring manager values strong execution, debugging ability, and hands-on lab skills. Candidates with adjacent technical degrees and strong practical experience will be considered. Python proficiency and comfort working along
