Role & seniority: Quality Engineer; mid-senior level with 5–10 years of experience; Bachelor’s in engineering required.

Stack/tools: blueprint reading, CAD; metrology and calibration; automated testing; data collection/analysis; quality management concepts and computer-generated reports.

Top 3 responsibilities

  1. Review/approve sampling procedures and record/report quality and reliability data.

  2. Supervise programs evaluating precision/accuracy of production equipment and testing facilities.

  3. Develop, maintain, and apply quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products (including training and directing measurement/testing activities).

Must-have skills: strong reading/interpreting of blueprints and schematics; analytical/problem-solving ability; clear verbal/written communication; team-oriented; leadership/mentoring capability; proficiency with CAD or related engineering software.

Nice-to-haves: deep experience across quality control domains (design, incoming material, process control, product reliability, metrology, automated testing, software, R&D); prior experience leading quality programs.

Location & work type: multiple GM locations in Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, with roles typically 1–2 years; relocation assistance and sponsorship may be available.

  • General Motors (like all of the major OEM’s) use a very large, 3rd party to handle their Recruiting activities.  GM works with a company called Allegis (BeeLine Systems), every OEM requires different amounts of information needed to be able to get your resume into their massive database.  GM’s is one of the largest, since they have had So many past applicants the past 50 years; Allegis does require that TPT gets an interested candidate’s DOB, Full Name and SSN to get you in this system. Summary

  • The main function of a quality engineer is to research and test the design, functionality and maintenance of products, equipment, systems and processes and develop quality standards. A typical quality engineer has the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and evaluate product integrity and standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review and approve sampling procedures and designs, forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.

  • Review and supervise programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.

  • May conduct training sessions on quality control activities.

  • Considered a specialist in areas of quality control engineering, such as design, incoming material, process control, product evaluation, product reliability, inventory control, metrology, automated testing, software, research and development, and administrative application.

  • Directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.

  • Plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products.

  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation, utilizing knowledge in engineering fields such as chemical, electrical, or mechanical.

  • May manage quality control program.

  • Team player and detail oriented.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports.

  • Previous experience with computer applications and software related to engineering field, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD).

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.

  • 5-10 years experience required.
