Top 3 responsibilities

Establish quality standards for coating/ surface prep services and ensure conformance to customer specs

Inspect, test, and measure materials/services; accept or reject finished products and discuss results with production

Identify non-conforming items, recommend process adjustments, and perform random quality inspections

Must-have skills: 2+ years coating inspection experience (NBPI or NACE preferred); marine industry experience desired; knowledge of SSPC/AMPP standards; ability to read blueprints/specs; strong documentation and basic computer skills; familiarity with QA equipment; physically capable of required tasks (climbing, crawling, confined spaces)

UHP Projects located in Newport News, Virginia is a world class, SSPC QP-1 certified surface preparation, coating and painting application contractor that uses environmentally friendly as well as standard methods to administer true surface preparation for many industries. Choosing the proper coating and application system is critical for the entire project lifespan while emphasizing Safety and Quality has been the primary theme at UHP for over two decades. We are seeking to hire a reliable, dependable and knowledgeable Quality Assurance Inspector 1 to monitor quality standards and perform quality inspections to ensure conformance to customer specifications.
Work Schedule: 7 days a week from 6:00AM-2:30PM.
Duties and responsibilities
Establishing quality standards for services the company offers Reading blueprints and specifications to ensure that operations meet production standards Recommending any necessary adjustments and changes to production processes Inspecting and testing the materials and services provided by company Using gadgets such as micrometer screw gauges to measure products Removing products and services that don’t meet production standards and recommending strategies to improve product quality Accepting or rejecting finished products and services and discussing inspection results with the production team Performing inspections at random to assess service quality
Minimum Qualifications
SSPC NBPI or NACE 1 and 2+ years coating inspection experience preferably in the Marine industry (Higher certifications and experience level is preferred) Applicants must have experience and knowledge of the industry standards for surface preparation and coating applications and knowledge of basic QA equipment (SSPC/AMPP). Individual selected for this job will be inspecting blasted steel and marine coatings. High level of documentation required for the coating process and this individual will be providing those inspections and maintaining those records.
Must be familiar with basic computer skills such as but not limited to
- Spreadsheet software, word processing software, email management, data entry, productivity software etc.
