Develop innovative automated test systems for new product development; define system requirements with NPD; implement from concept to reality.

Dept Engineering Overview
Create test solutions for Tomorrow’s Tools. At Milwaukee Tool, Disruptive Innovation is not exclusive to the products introduced to the market; Disruptive Innovation is extended to all facets of the company including engineering support roles. As a team of Automation Engineers, we develop innovative automated test systems to support new product tests across North America. We work cross-functionally with new product development engineers and the test lab to define test system requirements. We make empowered decisions to rapidly take your test system design from concept to reality. Additionally, we support troubleshooting and design revisions to continuously improve existing systems.
We are looking for engineers passionate about automation, team collaboration, and product testing. A typical Automation Engineer has vertical mechatronics skillsets including Mechanical, Electrical, and Programming. While an engineer might specialize in one discipline, each engineer is expected to be agile across disciplines.
Develop innovative automated test systems to support new product development. Create new custom NI LabVIEW and PLC applications for data collection, hardware control, automated test execution, and test lab process automation. Maintain existing LabVIEW and PLC applications. Create and query SQL databases to save test data, create data visualizations, and enable data-driven decisions. Integrate and troubleshoot systems across domestic and global test labs. Define test system requirements in collaboration with New Product Development. Implement sensor technology, data acquisition, and motion control. Design electrical panel wiring and layout for automated test systems. Create system documentation including software architecture map, BOM (bill of materials), and operational instructions. Work with vendors for procurement of BOM material, costing, and schedule.
Analyze project risks – included but not limited to: Cost, Schedule, Procurement, Design, and Safety. Prioritize and manage multiple projects - Adhere to timelines and excel in a fast-paced high-energy environment. Collaborate with other engineers on technical solutions across domestic and global labs. Maintain technical competency and remain current with technology.
What TOOLS You’ll Bring With You
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Experience with mechatronic system software development using languages such as LabVIEW, Python, PLC ladder logic, and PLC structured text. Knowledge of test and measurement techniques, including sensor technology, signal conditioning, data acquisition (utilizing NI cDAQ, NI cRIO, and PLCs), and uncertainty calculations. LabVIEW certification is preferred. Familiarity with SQL database design, SQL queries, and Microsoft SQL Server. Experience using software source control (GIT preferred). Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualize processes and outcomes. Experience creating and interpreting electrical schematics (SolidWorks Electrical preferred). Willing to travel internationally (less than 10%)
