Must-have skills

  • BS in engineering/science or equivalent experience; 3+ years LabVIEW experience; Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or equivalent

  • Experience with NI cDAQ/cRIO and data acquisition tools; 3+ years in automotive component/system testing

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills; proficient MS Office/Access

Job Overview

  • The software test engineer is a key member of the ETE engineering group. The role will proactively collaborate with the engineering and operations teams. It is a Hands-on developer position utilizing software such as National Instruments LabVIEW, LabWindows CVI, C++ and others. Utilizing FPGA, and Real-Time modules to create robust data acquisition, timing, and control software to interface with automatic transmission test stands and other sub-assembly test equipment for manufacturing. The role will focus on improving key metrics including safety, quality, labor, and cost.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans for validating automatic transmissions.
  • Collect and analyze test data using data acquisition systems and software tools.
  • Document test results, create detailed technical reports, and present findings to engineering and quality teams.
  • Saving and managing databases and results in Microsoft Access, SQL, TDMS, CSV
  • Interfacing with and processing Analog, Digital, PWM and Frequency signals
  • Creating user-friendly PC-based Graphical Interfaces and HMIs
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and contribute to the development of best practices in testing.
  • Ensure that all testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. Troubleshoot and resolve any equipment issues.
  • Design and build automatic transmission testing equipment to validate build quality of remanufactured assemblies.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of testing procedures, results, and modifications made during the testing process.
  • Partner with on-site EHS to ensure all equipment meets safety regulations compliant with OSHA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in applicable engineering or science field preferred, however candidates with relevant equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of progressive LabVIEW experience required
  • 2+ years experience utilizing C++, LabWindows CVI
  • Experience with National Instruments cDAQ, cRIO and other DAQ hardware
  • 3+ years of experience in automotive component or system testing
  • Knowledge of automotive systems, testing standards, and validation processes
  • Experience with data acquisition tools (NI LabVIEW, TestStand, CANalyzer, or similar)
  • Able to create documents in MS Word, Excel and Access.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with FMEA, root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understand operational theory of automatic transmissions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with transmission, powertrain, or drivetrain testing.
  • Experience with testing equipment specific to automotive transmissions.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electronics, and software used in modern automatic transmissions.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing testing environment or a related discipline
  • Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) Preferred
  • Experience with CAN, EtherCat, Modbus, TCP/IP
  • Experience using and manipulating data using Microsoft Access
  • Skill in Auto CAD preferred
  • Skill with MS SQL Programming preferred
  • Able to respond effectively to unanticipated, time-sensitive and mission-critical test stand repair needs in a rapidly changing, high intensity environment.
