Role & seniority: Senior Test Development Engineer

Stack/tools: production test platforms for silicon photonics; wafer probing/sorting; optical coupling/FAU alignment; multi-instrument suites (laser/OSA/power meter/SMU/switch); hardware-software data interfaces; GR&R, FAT/SAT, URS templates; data tools (Excel; Python/JMP/Minitab as applicable)

Top 3 responsibilities

  • Define and own end-to-end test station/platform requirements (wafer prober/wafer sort, optical alignment, test platforms) and acceptance criteria

  • Lead vendor engagement, solution evaluation, trade-offs, proposal reviews, and alignment to performance/throughput/quality targets

  • Plan and execute acceptance readiness (FAT/SAT), bring-up, risk management, calibration/validation, and build reusable engineering assets (URS/specs templates, checklists, validation reports)

Full Description

Position Title: Senior Test Development Engineer

Your Job

Own the planning and development of new production test platforms for silicon photonics chips and wafers. This role leads end-to-end system definition, vendor collaboration, and acceptance readiness, ensuring new stations are production-ready with GR&R / repeatability targets and complete specifications and validation documentation.

Our Team

R&D-Component

What You Will Do

Lead new test station/platform definition across wafer prober/wafer sort, optical coupling/FAU alignment, and test platforms: translate internal needs into system architecture, specifications, and acceptance criteria.

Own technical engagement with equipment/instrument vendors: solution evaluation, trade-off decisions, proposal reviews, and technical alignment to meet performance, throughput, and quality targets.

Drive development and integration planning: interface definition (HW/SW/data), risk management, and cross-functional execution with software engineers and internal stakeholders.

Plan and execute acceptance readiness (FAT/SAT) and bring-up: ensure stations are “ready to run” with required documentation, checklists, and validation evidence.

Establish measurement robustness: lead GR&R / repeatability improvement, calibration strategy, and method validation for production use.

Build reusable engineering assets: templates for URS/specs, acceptance checklists, and validation reports to standardize future station rollouts. Support production ramp needs through issue triage and structured closure with vendors and internal teams (no shift rotation required).

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

BS/MS in EE/Optoelectronics/Physics/Materials/ChemE/ME or related fields. 5+ years of experience in semiconductor test/equipment/system development environments, with hands-on exposure to wafer probing/sorting and/or optical alignment/coupling platforms.

Strong capability in system-level thinking: defining architecture, interfaces, and requirements; able to communicate effectively with software engineers and vendors. Experience with equipment acceptance and validation practices (URS, FAT/SAT, GR&R/repeatability, calibration/traceability). Comfortable with data-driven engineering decisions (Excel required; Python/JMP/Minitab is a plus) and clear technical documentation in English.

What Will Put You Ahead

Experience supporting PIC/optical or mixed-signal product NPI and ramp, including cross-team debug with Test/Design. Silicon photonics/PIC production test experience (wafer-level optical/electrical testing, alignment stability, optical loss/repeatability drivers). Experience integrating multi-instrument test platforms (laser/OSA/power meter/SMU/switching) and optimizing measurement uncertainty and stability. Proven track record of vendor management for complex equipment development (schedule/risk control, technical negotiation, change management). Ability and willingness to travel for vendor development, training, FAT/SAT, and onsite bring-up.
