Description Position Overview We are seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist to support the Quality Assurance inspection team on the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract. This role performs Quality Assurance inspections to ensure compliance with applicable specifications, procedures, and requirements across multiple programs, divisions, and projects at JSC.
QAS personnel work closely with quality engineers, technicians, QA records clerks, and operations staff to support field activities, inspections, testing, and documentation. Key Duties & Responsibilities Perform Quality Assurance inspections of electromechanical systems, subsystems, and components during fabrication, installation, assembly, testing, modification, or repair in accordance with approved instructions, guidelines, and specifications. Coordinate with engineering, operations, and technical personnel to accomplish inspection assignments. Witness basic tests and test setups for hardware; document results and prepare discrepancy documentation as required. Ensure compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, applicable policies, and procedures. Support safety, health, and environmental requirements; adhere to all company and site safety policies and report potential safety concerns. Participate in required training and on-the-job training (OJT) to become familiar with assigned hardware, equipment, processes, and inspection tools. Perform inspections under the guidance of a lead or higher-grade inspector as needed; may serve as the sole inspector for limited-scope or minor work areas. Prepare discrepancy documentation with guidance from senior inspectors when judgment or interpretation is required. Maintain flexibility in task assignments to support adequate QA floor coverage. Demonstrate the ability to handle increasingly complex inspection assignments over time. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow written and verbal technical instructions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency, including email, document management, and basic software applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, grasping, and lifting/pushing/pulling items over 20 lbs.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in inspection, quality assurance, manufacturing, testing, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with manufacturing or test environments.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Prior experience working in regulated or high-reliability environments preferred.
- This position is expected to pay $25 - $28 per hour commensurate with experience.
