Full Description

A growing product-led ‘Tech for Good’ organisation in Edinburgh is looking for a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to join one of their mobile product squads. This role will play a key part in shaping how quality is delivered across their customer-facing mobile platform, taking ownership of test automation and helping the team build reliable, scalable software as the product continues to evolve.

You’ll be joining an Agile product team with strong momentum, working closely with Engineers, Product and Design to deliver improvements and new features used by customers across the UK. With exciting projects already underway and more planned, this is a great time to join and influence how quality and automation are approached moving forward.

This role offers real ownership. You’ll take the lead on automation strategy within the squad, building and maintaining mobile automation tests while helping embed quality-focused engineering practices within the team. There’s also scope to improve tooling, processes and overall test coverage as the platform continues to grow.

The environment is highly collaborative, with teams focused on continuous improvement, delivering working software, and making life easier for the next person working on the codebase. Automation, TDD principles and a “build it, run it” mindset are all part of how teams operate.

You’ll ideally have experience with most of the following

  • Strong automation testing experience, ideally including mobile applications
  • Experience building and maintain automated test suites (Appium or similar tools)
  • Experience testing both front-end and back-end systems
  • API testing knowledge (e.g. Postman or similar tools)
  • Ability to translate requirements and user stories into meaningful test coverage
  • Experience working closely with Developers and Product teams in Agile environments

You’ll work as part of a product squad, with opportunities to collaborate with other SETs and Engineers across the wider organisation. You’ll act as the quality champion for your team while contributing to broader automation and quality initiatives.

This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving technical challenges, and helping teams deliver better software through strong automation and testing practices.

Their offices are on the outskirts of Edinburgh, within walking distance of public transport links, with free onsite parking available. They support hybrid working, where you'd be expected onsite around three days per week for team collaboration.

In return, they offer a salary of £45k–£65k depending on experience, alongside a strong benefits package including a 35-hour working week, private healthcare, 15% pension, annual bonus, 28 days holiday plus bank holidays, and more.
