Job Summary The Linux Administrator & Test Engineer I will be a member of a hybrid operations and test engineering team responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving Linux‑based systems as well as developing and executing functional test frameworks for Adtran products. This role supports both system administration tasks and engineering test development activities to ensure reliable product performance and stable infrastructure environments. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, environments, and associated system services used within engineering and test labs. Perform system monitoring, basic troubleshooting, patching, user support, and log analysis across Linux environments. Support the development and implementation of functional and automated tests for new and existing Adtran products. Assist in developing scripts or small software tools (Python, Bash, or C/C++) to support system maintenance, test automation, and product validation workflows. Participate in the setup and integration of test hardware, network devices, and lab infrastructure to support product testing, including building and maintaining Linux-based test PCs. Support firmware loading, system imaging, and configuration of test units in a high‑speed production or lab environment. Contribute to root‑cause analysis and troubleshooting activities, isolating system, network, or product issues to component or configuration levels. Research Linux technologies, networking protocols, or automation solutions relevant to Adtran products and engineering environments. Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company. Qualifications Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field required. 0–2 years of professional experience in Linux system administration, test engineering, or related technical roles. Hands‑on experience with Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL, or similar), including command‑line tools, system configuration, and troubleshooting. Basic scripting experience in Bash, Python, or C/C++ required. Understanding of standard debugging, version control tools (Git), and software development workflows. Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, Ethernet, SSH, DNS) and the ability to work with networked systems in a lab environment. Must be able to travel internationally. Preferred Qualifications (Optional) Experience supporting engineering labs or test environments. Knowledge of automation frameworks, CI/CD concepts, or infrastructure tools (Ansible, Git, Jenkins) is a plus. Exposure to telecommunications technologies (Ethernet, SNMP, SONET/SDH, xPON) preferred. Understanding of server virtualization, containerization (Docker), or cloud fundamentals. Knowledge of web technologies (HTML, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular) and REST API development (Flask) is a plus. Understanding of SQL database fundamentals (MariaDB, PostgreSQL) is a plus. Exposure to hyperscaler technology stacks (AWS, Azure, GCP) is helpful, but not required.
