Job Description
Prime for position (resume reviews, interviews): Suresh Sukumar (or delegate)
Job Title: QA Engineer – Telecom / UC Solutions
Experience Level: 4–7 Years
Shift: Standard IST (with overlap for global collaboration)
Location: Pune
Role Summary We are seeking an experienced QA Engineer to perform manual, automation, protocol, media, and performance testing for enterprise telecom, Unified Communications (UC), and Contact Center (CC) solutions. The role focuses on validating SIP signaling, RTP/RTCP media flows, audio/video quality, codecs, transcoding, scalability, reliability, and protocol compliance. Strong experience in Avaya Aura or similar enterprise UC platforms is highly valued, but equivalent expertise in telecom/UC environments (e.g., Cisco, Genesys) is welcome.
Key Responsibilities
Execute manual testing of telecom/UC features, including audio/video call scenarios and collaboration tools. Develop and maintain automated test scripts (preferred experience with TARTS or similar SIP/traffic/regression frameworks; also using Python, Perl, Selenium). Perform protocol-level testing with SIPp and traffic generators to simulate high-volume calls and stress signaling/media. Validate SIP/SDP negotiation, RTP/RTCP flows, mid-call features, codec handling, transcoding, and media interoperability. Test audio/video codecs (e.g., G.711, G.729, Opus, H.264, H.265), jitter, packet loss, latency, and basic MOS concepts. Execute performance/load testing with JMeter for signaling, media handling, REST APIs, and backend services. Verify end-to-end call flows and media behaviors (preferred across Avaya Aura components like Session Manager, System Manager, Media Server, or comparable platforms), including conferencing, anchoring, recording, failover, and unified messaging (voicemail, STT/TTS, transcription). Conduct in-depth log, trace, and packet analysis (using Wireshark and similar tools) for debugging complex signaling/media issues. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for defects in signaling, media, and performance. Manage defects, test cases, plans, and documentation using Jira and Confluence. Define test strategies, coverage, scope, and entry/exit criteria for solution verification. Deploy, configure, and maintain test environments (clusters, SIP endpoints, certificates, secure signaling).
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Core Technical Skills
Telecom/UC Domain (Preferred): Hands-on experience with telecom product companies (Avaya, Cisco, Genesys, or similar UC/CC platforms).
Protocols: Deep knowledge of SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP, TLS, TCP/UDP.
Media Technologies: Strong understanding of audio/video codecs, negotiation, transcoding, anchoring, jitter/packet loss/latency, and MOS basics.
Signaling Tools: Advanced SIPp proficiency for custom XML call-flow scenarios (UAC/UAS/UCC).
Performance Testing: Expertise in SIP-based traffic generators and JMeter for API/backend load testing.
Automation: Experience with SIP-focused or general test automation frameworks (TARTS or equivalents is a plus).
Scripting: Proficiency in Python and/or Shell (Perl a bonus).
Networking & Security: Solid TCP/IP, DNS, NAT, firewalls, packet analysis for SIP/RTP; TLS configuration and certificates.
Operating Systems: Advanced Linux (RHEL preferred) and Windows proficiency.
Virtualization/Containers: Exposure to VMware/KVM, Docker, or Kubernetes is a plus.
Desirable / Plus Skills
Hands-on testing of Avaya products/solutions or equivalent enterprise UC platforms. Experience with audio/video conferencing, collaboration, recording, and unified messaging (voicemail, transcription, STT/TTS). Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
