Role & seniority: Quality Engineer (mid-level to senior) focused on championing quality throughout the SDLC and coaching teams.
Stack/tools: automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end); test pyramid; collaboration with development; CI/CD pipelines and test data management (nice-to-have).
Influence design/development practices to shift quality left and build confidence in software quality.
Create, maintain, and improve automated test suites; review and enhance tests with engineers.
Identify and mitigate quality risks in complex systems; communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven experience as Quality Engineer or Software Engineer in Test
Hands-on with unit, integration, and end-to-end automated testing
Ability to collaborate with engineers to write, review, and improve tests
Strong understanding of the test pyramid and appropriate test types
Clear, confident communication with stakeholders
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution
Test data management and test environments familiarity
Experience reducing flaky tests and improving pipeline reliability
Location & work type: Full-time, permanent, based anywhere in New Zealand; remote-friendly with optional office presence in Auckland, Wellington, or Dunedin; legally entitled to work in NZ.

The core purpose of the Quality Engineer role is to champion quality processes throughout our software development lifecycle (SDLC). You’ll champion and coach product management, software engineers and others on the best approaches to get a strong confidence in the quality of software that Timely releases. You’ll also help build and maintain automated test suites that allow this confidence to be garnered at rapid intervals. You’ll be a core part of our collective goal to maintain a high level of confidence from our customers in the software they use, ensure our customers can maintain business continuity, and ensure we can continue to innovate and delight our customers.
