What To Expect The Quality Engineer will be responsible for all incoming, in-process, and outgoing quality for Drive Unit and overall Vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). You will be exposed to the manufacturing and testing processes of the drive system assembly and vehicle assembly, which will include drive tests to analyze and investigate the source of the noise. This role requires broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and out.
What You'll Do
Develop and implement manufacturing requirements, quality standards and product quality plans to ensure products meet customer expectations Define and establish critical requirements to ensure supplier, engineering, and production alignment on critical quality needs Lead development of FMEAs (Design & Process), control plans, and test/inspection procedures to identify and eliminate critical risks associated with product and process Participate in design reviews to ensure product subsystem quality, manufacturability, reliability, etc. Investigate the effects of part and process variability on system performance through statistical tolerancing, Monte Carlo analysis and other methods Support capability analyses for both production and supplier processes to measure ability to meet specifications and quality standards Design effective experiments through DOE or other methods to support design investigation and validation testing Support root cause analysis through use of lean methodologies, brainstorming, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, DMAIC, 8D, etc. Lead the containment and dispositioning of product escapes to ensure no impact to the downstream customer Manage and facilitate problem-solving activities for quality risks including implementation and verification of corrective actions Lead quality validation of new products and processes through risk assessment, planning, and execution
What You'll Bring
Experience with electric motor, drive systems, NVH testing and/or power electronics is preferred but not required Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing related field, or equivalent experience A minimum of 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, quality and/or testing Working knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) Strong understanding of Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience with measurement and inspection techniques Demonstrated success in applying problem solving and statistical methods Data mining and analysis software including MySQL, Python, JMP, Minitab, Matlab, etc Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills Detail-oriented, with ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines
