Location: Mission District, San Francisco, CA
Contract: 3–6 months (potential extensions)
Pay: $45/hr, W2 Overview We’re looking for a hands-on SMT Soldering & Test Technician to support R&D and low-volume manufacturing of electro-mechanical and optical products. This role focuses on precision soldering, PCB rework, electrical testing, and troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities Perform precision SMT soldering and rework on small components, including 0201 and leadless packages (QFN, DFN, LGA). Remove and replace ICs and other surface-mount components, including in challenging scenarios. Power-up and test PCBs, capturing critical measurements (voltage, current, PK2PK ripple). Troubleshoot and repair boards at the component level (shorts, unexpected current draw, failed ICs, diodes, FETs). Support environmental stress and burn-in testing (temperature cycling, hot/cold tests). Inspect solder joints for quality and document all work in spreadsheets or tracking systems (e.g., JIRA). Follow formal test procedures, ESD, and safety standards. Use bench equipment such as PSUs, DMMs, and oscilloscopes; run existing test automation or data logging scripts as needed. Must-Have Skills 3–5 years hands-on SMT soldering and rework experience with fine-pitch components Proven ability to work with 0201 components and leadless packages Component-level troubleshooting and basic electrical testing experience Familiarity with bench equipment and capturing critical electrical measurements Experience with environmental stress and burn-in testing Strong documentation skills and experience following formal test procedures and tracking results High attention to detail and comfort working with delicate assemblies
