Position Summary The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and maintaining automated manufacturing systems to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency. This role supports plant operations by troubleshooting control systems, optimizing PLC/HMI programs, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.
Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement automation systems for manufacturing equipment and production lines Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial control systems Support robotics integration and automated material handling systems Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls-related equipment issues to minimize downtime Lead capital improvement and automation upgrade projects from concept through commissioning Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and OEE Modify and improve existing control systems to enhance efficiency and reduce scrap Develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and technical documentation Ensure compliance with safety standards, including machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures Assist with vendor selection and manage external automation contractors as needed Provide technical training to maintenance and operations teams on automated systems
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field 3+ years of experience in automation within a manufacturing environment Hands-on experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms) Experience with HMI/SCADA systems Strong understanding of industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.) Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs Experience with robotics integration preferred Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
