Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Engineer who will take a leading role in uplifting Test Management across our strategic programmes and the wider Engineering Practice. This role is all about enabling our squads to deliver high quality, reliable changes at pace by shaping how we design, automate and embed testing into our ways of working. You will work closely with Enterprise Test Leads, Chapter Leads and engineers to build effective test strategies that support delivery at scale and strengthen our quality foundations.
As part of ASB’s Engineering Practice, you will join a community that encourages autonomy, continuous learning and collaborative problem solving. You will have opportunities to get hands on with complex work that spans multiple platforms and squads, contributing to the uplift of test automation and quality engineering across the bank. Alongside other Principal Engineers, you will help champion engineering excellence and guide teams through change with clarity and purpose.
Key Responsibilities
Establish and review test and automation strategies, roadmaps and best practice across programmes of work to ensure strong test coverage. Champion and drive the adoption of future fit test automation tooling, including areas such as synthetic data, while simplifying and standardising tooling choices. Design and maintain reusable test automation assets and frameworks, and provide technical guidance to test engineers on how to adopt and extend these assets. Work hands on with squads to support the implementation of automated testing and help them get started with new tooling or frameworks. Build engagement, trust and buy in across engineering teams by communicating clearly, listening well and supporting teams on their transformation journey.
