Role Overview Vesalius Therapeutics, a Flagship Pioneering company, is seeking a capable and highly motivated Lab Automation Engineer to join our growing team. As an automation engineer, you will be an essential part of an interdisciplinary team of highly creative and talented individuals responsible for designing, maintain, and implement lab instrumentation, workstations and integrated robotic systems that support various discovery activities within the Assays & HTS team. Key Responsibilities Contribute to the design, optimization, and operation of automation processes for in vitro cell-based assays including ancillary activities that enable drug discovery, target validation and sample logistics to enable our internal drug discovery processes Manage high-throughput automation equipment including liquid handlers and robotic systems (e.g. Biomek i7/Echo/Benchcel, or similar) Translate bench scientists’ manual workflows to automated processes, scaling assays, and reducing inter-operator variability Perform regular maintenance on and troubleshoot issues with various lab instruments Identify and proactively troubleshoot technical issues, implement solutions under limited supervision Work effectively with multi-disciplinary groups and individuals to improve reliability and efficiency Clearly communicate benefits, limitations, and potential risks in automated workflows to audiences with a variety of technical backgrounds Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or related discipline with 3 or more years of lab automation experience Working knowledge of robotic systems, automated liquid handlers, and multimodal lab instruments Understanding of Python programming, including API integration and data processing Familiarity of lab orchestration/scheduling software (e.g. Green Button Go, Cellario, or similar) Basic understanding of common in-vitro assays and routine lab bench work Demonstrated ability to efficiently troubleshoot automated systems and quickly adapt to evolving technology and assay methodology Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills Strong computer skills and IT orientated Ability to work on cross-functional teams Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment with a sense of urgency and creativity and focus on deliverables.
