Full Description

Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the definition of requirements for materials, parts, and processes used in the manufacture and design of Interior Products for commercial aircraft s through testing and research. This position will also coordinate and execute the majority of aspects of testing from test design to test implementation.

The Test and M&PT Engineer will partially support the development, design, and qualification of engineering packages by creating and/or revising specifications and other documents used to manage the deployment of materials, parts, and processes for those engineering packages. Partial support is equally including but not limited to set up, execution and tear down of full scale static test, partial static test, dynamic tests and cycle tests of aircraft interior components and assemblies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned

Focal for introduction and development of new materials and manufacturing processes Draft test plans and perform tests to qualify new materials, parts, and processes to meet internal and regulatory requirements Create and/or support creating test article and test setup drawings for coupon testing Develop and/or help developing manufacturing drawings from engineering drawings for new manufacturing processes Monitor manufacturing processes and provide feedback and improvement Work closely with Stress and Fire Properties Engineers to ensure new materials are compliant to applicable stress and flammability requirements Conduct basic root cause and corrective action analysis to determine cause of materials, part, or process failures and implement solutions Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design, and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas. Stay up to date on industry standards, government regulations and new development in the field of M&PT. Actively participate in SAE Seating Committee meetings/telecons. Support Stress/Flammability, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering team with any M&P related topics. Support Supply Chain and Design Optimization team in researching use of new materials for potential cost and process optimization. Coordinate with other departments as necessary. Responsible to maintain material & process database Via test plan, test request or direction from authorized personnel prepare test set-ups, instrumentation, and data acquisition to support test and integration of actuation systems. Represent testing at design reviews and technical coordination meetings. Direct and exercise control over operational, functional, and performance phases of tests. Confer with engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data analysis. Assists in the analysis and interpretation of test data and preparation of technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel. Uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on mechanical and products and systems. Design and assemble test processes with direction from stress engineers or supervising test engineer.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

B. S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Material Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience in material allowable testing and material qualification testing is required. Familiarity in industrial standard testing method and testing equipment is required.

Knowledge And Experience In Statistical Data Analysis Is Required.

Knowledgeable with Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS). Four to six years of experience in related field. Experience with Aerospace metallic and composite materials and manufacturing processes is required. Experience with developing repairs is preferred.

Knowledgeable with ASTM standards and Composite Material Handbook (CMH-17). Knowledgeable with FAA regulations for materials, processes and allowables.

A good static & cycle test and development background mainly in mechanical aircraft passenger seats

Language Skill

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret aerospace material and manufacturing process specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
