Full Description
Summary
At Remote Crew, we're partnering with a fast-growing infrastructure automation platform for Terraform and OpenTofu, looking for a Senior QA Engineer. You'll be the first dedicated quality hire at the company. You'll design and build the test automation platform from scratch, set the testing standards, and help developers own the quality of what they ship.
Salary: €45k - €60k
Location: Fully remote. Portugal or Spain preferred.
What You'll Do
Define what "tested" means across the platform: test levels, merge and release gates, coverage expectations Build a test automation framework developers can extend on their own Create reliable test data and disposable environments that use real cloud resources Design contract and integration tests across services Build end to end coverage for the workflows that matter most Write regression suites covering provider, version, and cloud combinations Test Terraform and OpenTofu execution, state, and long running async operations Pair with engineers, write templates and docs, and run office hours to grow test ownership Track adoption of testing practices across teams, don't just assume it's happening
Make quality visible: coverage, escaped bugs, and risk before release Work directly with backend, frontend, and product feature owners Help shape the QA function as the company grows the team
What We're Looking For
Senior level experience in QA automation, SDET, or platform engineering with a strong quality focus Real platform or infrastructure background with Terraform or OpenTofu Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Hands on experience with containers and Kubernetes CI/CD pipelines you built yourself, not just used Strong production level coding skills in Python, Go, or TypeScript Proven experience building a test automation framework from the ground up, including test data, environment provisioning, parallelization, and flakiness API first testing depth plus E2E experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar Comfort testing distributed, async, multi-tenant systems Ability to set standards and get engineers to follow them without formal authority Strong self direction. There's no existing QA team or backlog to lean on
Nice to Have
Policy as code experience with OPA or Rego Terratest, kitchen terraform, or provider level testing Performance and load testing with k6 or Locust Developer experience or internal tooling background Experience as the first quality hire at a startup
Why Work With Us
You'll build the QA function from zero, not inherit someone else's backlog
You'll tackle a genuinely hard technical problem: testing Terraform and OpenTofu execution across async, multi-tenant infrastructure You'll work directly with the CTO and feature owners, no layers of hierarchy in between You'll help hire and shape a small QA team as it grows around you You'll join a small, fully remote engineering team with short decision paths and real ownership
If building the quality backbone of an infrastructure platform sounds like your kind of problem, we'd love to hear from you.
