Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer.

Full time permanent 39 hours per week

Job location: Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union

The Quality Engineer will play a key role in the day-to-day management, monitoring and continuous improvement of manufacturing quality performance within their designated production unit(s). The role will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Inspection and Quality Assurance to ensure product and process requirements are met and quality performance is continually improved.

Essential Responsibilities

Analyse non-conformance data for improvement opportunities

Review data of non-conformances (minor & major rework, scrap, customer complaints etc.) to identify quality improvement opportunities through inspection and/or production processes Establish action plans and engage relevant departments in order to implement required improvements Lead/support root cause investigations and corrective actions, ensuring actions are appropriately documented, implemented and their effectiveness verified Collate details of root cause analysis, corrective actions and verification to document and present performance improvements to management

Liaise with Engineering regarding inspection reference materials

Support the Engineering department in the creation and maintenance of visual aids Report any issues/improvements with engineering reference materials Ensure relevant quality and inspection reference documentation is clear, current and available to production and inspection personnel

Inspection stamp control

Responsible for issue, scope control and withdrawal of inspection stamps in line with the latest inspection stamp control process Support activities to measure inspector competency to determine stamp issue, scope control and withdrawal This includes keeping the inspection exam up to date in line with latest inspection SOPs and ensuring that the exam answers are kept confidential

Attend MRB meetings and support NCR activities

Attend daily MRB meeting for the production area Support NCR/8D investigations Train others how to conduct NCR/8D investigations and to use the latest issue forms Support the timely closure of NCRs and corrective actions, ensuring appropriate evidence is available to demonstrate effective resolution

Collate scrap / quarantine data

Maintain data of scrap / quarantine for designated production unit to report daily Analyse trends and identify opportunities to reduce scrap, rework and quarantine within the designated production area

Set up, maintain and conduct containment audits

Set up containment audits for the designated production unit to confirm containment actions implemented are being carried out effectively Maintain containment audits in line with latest containments/Quality Alerts/One Point Lessons Conduct containment audits at designated intervals Escalate any failures in containment and ensure appropriate corrective actions are initiated

PFMEA, Control Plans and FAIR / LAIR activities

Key involvement in multi-disciplined PFMEA teams Support the development and review of PFMEAs and Control Plans to ensure identified product and process risks are appropriately controlled Plan, coordinate and lead FAIR activities in accordance with applicable customer and regulatory requirements Coordinate the required inspection activities, dimensional results, material/certification evidence, photographs and supporting documentation required to complete FAIR packages Review FAIR documentation for completeness and accuracy and coordinate the resolution of any outstanding issues prior to submission/approval Support Delta/Partial FAIR and LAIR activities where required Create and distribute reports for FAIR activities

Quality Management Systems and Compliance

Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Quality Management System processes within the manufacturing environment Ensure adherence to applicable customer and regulatory requirements, including AS9100, NADCAP and customer-specific requirements Support the implementation and maintenance of quality procedures, work instructions and processes within the designated production areas Identify opportunities for improvement within the Quality Management System and manufacturing processes

Auditing

Conduct internal audits and process audits Support product, process and containment audits within designated production areas Identify, document and support the resolution of audit findings and opportunities for improvement

Quality Performance / KPIs

Record and measure quality performance KPIs Analyse quality performance data and trends and provide information to management to support improvement activities Monitor key measures including NCRs, scrap, rework, customer complaints and other relevant quality indicators

Training and Continuous Improvement

Provide quality-related training and guidance to production and inspection personnel where required Promote a proactive quality culture and support continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing environment Work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Inspection and Quality Assurance to identify and implement quality improvements

Position Requirements

Academic

HND / Degree in engineering/related technical subject, or experience in a similar role Knowledge or experience of aerospace quality requirements Knowledge of NADCAP requirements would be advantageous, particularly Chemical Processing, Heat Treatment, Welding and NDT

Experience

Similar experience in Quality Engineering or similar role within an aerospace production environment Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings Experience of investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions Experience of conducting or supporting internal/process audits Experience of FAIR/AS9102 activities would be advantageous
