Project Description
- We're building a streaming TV (OTT) app for Android TV set-top boxes for one of the largest pay-TV providers in North America. The app covers live TV, on-demand content, cloud DVR, personalized home screens and sports. Millions of households use it.
- You'll join a feature team spread across several countries that builds and tests customer-facing features from start to finish. The team works in Agile sprints, with nightly builds, regular release candidates and hotfixes. Testing is done on real devices and emulators, using a shared Java/Appium automation framework.
- We're looking for a Senior SDET who can own quality for the team's features and deliver on their own, without close supervision.
Responsibilities
-
Own quality for your team's features: review requirements, spot risks early, and decide what to test manually and what to automate
-
Design, write and maintain test cases in a Jira-based test management tool
-
Write and maintain automated UI tests for an Android TV app in Java with Appium, including remote-control navigation and focus checks
-
Add to the shared automation framework (screen classes, locators, test data, helpers) and review other engineers' test code
-
Use a proxy tool to inspect and mock API responses and to simulate errors and edge cases
-
Use feature flags to test features that aren't released yet
-
Test on real devices: install builds, update devices, and manage test accounts and device setups
-
Run feature testing, regression testing and release candidate testing, and confirm fixes before release
-
Review failed automated test runs: separate real bugs from unstable tests or environment problems, and keep the test suite reliable
-
Investigate problems with adb, logcat, crash reports and network traffic, and write clear bug reports with likely causes
-
Check non-functional quality: memory use and stability on the device, accessibility with TalkBack, and analytics events
-
Work closely with developers, the product owner and other teams across time zones, and suggest improvements to testing practices and tools
