Role & seniority: Engineering Manager; leads a verification & validation (V&V) team of 5+ systems engineers in a safety-critical AV program.
Stack/tools: V&V methods including log data analysis, simulation, closed-course testing; cross-functional test development; data extractors and statistical evaluation; agile environment; programming/DB familiarity (Python, SQL) and Linux are beneficial.
Direct and grow the V&V team; set priorities, mentor, and provide career guidance.
Develop, own, and execute end-to-end V&V strategy for AV behavioral competencies (simulation to on-road) with focus on corner cases; establish metrics and objective evaluation.
Plan, coordinate, and deliver vehicle tests across perception, planning/controls, and safety; ensure traceability from requirements to test results; provide data-driven feedback and validation evidence.
BS or higher in Automotive/Aerospace/Robotics/Electrical/Mechanical/CS/Systems Engineering
7+ years in vehicle or complex system validation; ADAS/AV focus preferred
2+ years of direct leadership; experience with V&V plans for safety-critical robotics/AV
Ability to operate in agile environments; strong analytical and statistical skills; automotive electronics familiarity

Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous mobility solution for cities. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a verification and validation team that’s evaluating the safety performance of our robot in a variety of driving scenarios.
In this role, you will lead a team of engineers that leverage methods including log data analysis, simulation, and closed course structured testing. You’ll work cross functionally with driving software teams, software tool teams, test operators, systems engineers, proving ground operators, and more to develop, execute, and iterate on your validation campaigns. These campaigns will evaluate our safety critical system, are highly visible, and are an important critical path element of launching our service. The ideal candidate not only brings technical expertise and leadership to the role, but also provides mentorship, drives clarity from ambiguity, brings new processes into existence, scopes projects, sets priorities, and propels the company forward. \n

\n $199,000 - $250,000 a year
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
