Role & seniority: Wireless Test Engineer (mid–senior) on Waymo Compute Team; hybrid work schedule; reports to EMC Lead.
Stack/tools: Wireless techs (5G NR, LTE, GNSS, BLE, Wi‑Fi); test equipment (Call Boxes, signaling testers, GNSS simulator, WLAN AP); field testing; scripting (Shell, Python, Bash).
Create, develop, test methods and performance metrics for wireless technologies; plan targeted field experiments.
Develop automated test scripts and operate measurement equipment; analyze internal logs to identify and resolve issues with HW/SW teams.
Support internationalization efforts, regulatory compliance, and lead fleet-wide connectivity initiatives (congestion, priority, coverage) domestically and internationally.
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related, 5 years industry experience.
Hands-on live network testing (test plan, field testing, log analysis).
Expert with wireless test equipment; practical experience in at least one tech (5G NR, LTE, GNSS, BLE, Wi‑Fi); experience with SAR, OTA, coexistence, interoperability testing.
Excellent written/verbal communication; independent work; scripting to automate tests.
Hardware debugging experience; deep cellular protocol stack knowledge (PHY/MAC to higher layers); antenna/RF design concepts.
Ability to travel locally and internationally.

Waymo's Compute Team is tasked with a critical and exciting mission: We deliver the compute platform responsible for running the fully autonomous vehicle’s software stack. To achieve our mission, we architect and create high-performance custom silicon; we develop system-level compute architectures that push the boundaries of performance, power, and latency; and we collaborate closely with many other teammates to ensure we design and optimize hardware and software for maximum performance. This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports and you will report to the EMC Lead
You Will
Create, develop, test methods and test performance metrics for various wireless technologies (5G NR, LTE, Wi-Fi, BLE, GNSS) Cultivate automated test test scripts and and expertly operate sophisticated measurement equipment Performing deep-dive analysis on internal logs to identity and resolve hardware/software issues, working closely with various cross-functional teams including external vendors Help with our internationalization efforts working with various international carriers and regulatory bodies so that our module meets stringent regulatory compliance standards Work with HW/SW development teams in the lab and in the field to identify and resolve connectivity performance issues Lead our fleet-wide connectivity initiatives for improving involving congestion, priority and coverage across the US and internationally Conduct and plan targeted field experiments to evaluate and improve performance of various wireless technologies
You Have
BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, related technical field, with 5 years industry experience Hands-on experience with live network testing that includes creating a test plan, conducting field testing and log analysis Expert in using wireless testing equipment such as Call Boxes, signaling testers, GNSS Simulator, WLAN Access Points Solid knowledge with practical experience in at least one of the wireless technologies (5G NR, LTE, GNSS, BLE, Wi-Fi) and experience with SAR, OTA, Coexistence testing, Interoperability testing. Excellent written/verbal communication, able to work independently Hands on scripting experience (Shell, Python, Bash) to automate repetitive tasks in various test methods

Comfortable with working on hardware and supporting engineering in debugging difficult issues Deep understanding of cellular protocol stack from PHY/MAC to higher layers Knowledge of antenna / RF design concepts Able to travel locally and internationally

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
