Nice-to-haves
What To Expect Tesla is at the forefront of developing humanoid robots, known as Optimus, on a large scale to revolutionize automation in manufacturing and material handling. We leverage advanced AI for highly adaptable and autonomous operation.
As part of our Optimus Hardware Validation team, we're seeking an exceptional test and validation engineer to design and implement comprehensive tests at sub-system and system levels for actuator validation. You'll develop innovative methodologies to ensure the reliability, performance, and safety of our cutting-edge actuators. This highly cross-functional role involves collaborating with design engineers, software developers, and firmware engineers to create efficient testing that delivers optimal results in minimal time.
You will take direction from a senior engineer, while assuming full responsibility over the tests you design and run, providing summaries directly to teams. The ideal candidate solid background in mechatronic and/or electric engineering, including low voltage and power distribution systems, and an understanding of electromechanical or robotic systems. Your ability to create effective test plans and scripts is crucial, along with understanding potential mechanical and electrical failures and their root causes. If you are passionate about robotics and possess the drive to tackle these technical challenges head-on, we invite you to be part of our team.
What You'll Do
Design, develop, and execute design validation and reliability tests for actuators in system and sub-system level Identify risks and failure modes of actuator designs by applying first principles thinking and scientific methodologies and collaborate with design partners to drive changes Design and build custom test setups and fixtures to make validation efficient, modular and repeatable Drive reliable collection of high-quality test data, analyze, and interpret test results, present findings, and guide failure analysis
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering, or equivilant experience 2+ years of experience designing or testing actuators, electromechanical systems, or robotic system, preferably within an industrial environment In-depth understanding of gearbox, transmission and motor components and knowledge of developing associated characterization/validation testing methods Strong modeling skill in CAD, preferably CATIA (3DExperience) with basic knowledge of GD&T Expertise in electrical sensors, actuators, test automation, motor controller operation, interfaces, and data acquisition systems are highly desirable Proficient in Python (or strong programming skill in another language with familiarity with Python) Experience using data analysis tools and techniques to interpret results; proficiency in MATLAB, Python, JMP, or Minitab is preferred Experience with embedded systems (firmware and hardware) and/or hands-on experience with dynamometer testing is highly desirable Ability to work effectively and autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining clear documentation of your work
