Role & seniority: Vehicle Test Engineer (level determined by interview), full-time, seniority to be set by candidate’s experience.

Data acquisition: HBM Somat eDAQ, Dewesoft
Sensors/tools: wheel force transducers, accelerometers, strain gauges, string potentiometers

Testing environment: in-house and third-party proving grounds
Conduct vehicle-level structural, durability, environmental, and powertrain tests; collect and analyze test data; ensure data integrity.
Perform milestone inspections, drive evaluations, investigate test failures, and support firmware upgrades/troubleshooting.
Write detailed test procedures, publish reports, and iterate procedures for better field correlation; collaborate with operators, technicians, reliability, simulation, and design teams.
Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent) with 3+ years in automotive systems or similar projects (e.g., Formula SAE)
Strong fundamentals in vehicle architecture; hands-on project experience
Excellent communication, cross-team collaboration, and data processing/reporting abilities
Experience with CAN programming or related software
Additional hands-on experience with data acquisition and analysis
Prior involvement in vehicle validation or reliability projects
What To Expect We are looking for Engineers with experience on vehicle system integration/validation and/or vehicle reliability and durability validation to join our vehicle hardware validation team. Your job is to collaborate with teams across the different vehicle programs to ensure that the vehicle meets our high performance and reliability standards. As a Vehicle Test Engineer, you will be among the first users of newly developed vehicles, and you will serve as the key knowledge holder of vehicle validation. You will identify product failures and drive corrective actions, all to ensure the long-term success of the Tesla vehicles.
The level of this role will be determined based on interviews.
What You'll Do
Conduct vehicle level structural strength and durability tests at in-house and third-party proving grounds Conduct vehicle level environmental tests like winter performance, water wade, hot weather performance etc. Conduct vehicle level powertrain and transmission tests at in-house and third-party proving grounds Collect proving ground data using wheel force transducers, accelerometers, strain gages, string potentiometers etc at in-house and third-party proving grounds Analyze and process test data and check for data integrity Conduct vehicle milestone inspections including drive evaluations (handling performance, ride comfort etc.) and investigate test failures Support firmware upgrades/troubleshooting and diagnostics for test vehicles Work in close collaboration with vehicle operators, technicians, instrumentation, reliability, simulation and design teams Write detailed test procedures and publish test reports Iterate and maintain the test procedure for best field correlation
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or equivalent experience 3 or more years of experience with automotive systems or competitive projects such as Formula SAE or equivalent Strong fundamentals in vehicle architecture and exposure to hands-on (school, industrial or personal) project experience is preferred Strong communication skills and willing to work with multiple teams simultaneously Experience with technical report writing and data processing Experience with CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks etc. Experience using data acquisition software such as HBM Somat eDAQ and/or Dewesoft is a plus Experience with CAN communication and/or programming is a plus Up to 35% domestic travel required, potential international travel may be involved as well

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
