Role & seniority: Hardware Test Engineer (hands-on, production-focused)

Job Description

  • Shield AI’s mission is to protect the lives of service members and civilians with intelligent systems. The Hardware Test Engineering team contributes to this effort by designing test solutions that drive high hardware reliability on both our V-BAT and X-BAT vehicles. These solutions are in-house designed electrical and mechanical equipment used to perform component and system-level testing, both at ambient and in simulated harsh environmental conditions.

In this role, you will build and maintain a fleet of test systems that included electrical, mechanical, and software elements. You will assemble test fixtures and work with engineers to simplify and improve test stand designs. Help us save lives as we strive to deliver the most highly reliable aerospace hardware in the industry. \n

What you'll do

  • Perform benchtop PCBA testing and debugging.
  • Perform rework on PCBAs, harnesses, and other mechanical assemblies.
  • Design simple PCBs, mechanical fixtures, and harnessing.
  • Respond to emergent issues on the production floor to keep the line moving.
  • Contribute to and attend cross-functional design reviews. Advocate for design changes that result in simpler rework and testing processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

  • Experience with hands-on technical work in a high-volume production setting.
  • Experience performing benchtop testing.
  • Experience performing PCBA and harness rework.
  • Experience designing and maintaining engineered systems.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering concepts, including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Programming, Physics, and Mathematics.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary hardware development projects, which can be from an internship, job, club, team, personal project, etc…
  • Demonstrated history of showing ownership of project outcomes and delivering exceptional results.
  • Record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with PCB schematic and layout tools, including Altium, KiCAD, Eagle, etc…
  • Experience building wiring harnesses and assembling circuit boards.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, etc…
  • Demonstrated adaptability, agility, and the ability to innovate under pressure to meet dynamic project demands and drive successful outcomes.
