Position Overview: The Business Process / Automation Engineer (SME) supports analysis, redesign, and automation of business and IT processes to improve efficiency, transparency, and decision-making. This role leads process mapping, automation identification, and implementation activities aligned to mission outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze existing (as-is) business and IT processes to identify inefficiencies, risks, redundancies, and automation opportunities Facilitate stakeholder workshops and working sessions to capture current-state processes and requirements Develop future-state (to-be) process models aligned to mission outcomes, governance needs, and automation opportunities Produce detailed process documentation including narratives, workflows, SOPs, and procedural guides Conduct gap analyses comparing current processes to desired future states and best practices Define and support implementation of process improvement and automation initiatives, including workflow designs and configuration artifacts Develop business requirements documentation to support automation and system enhancements Define KPIs and performance metrics to measure effectiveness of redesigned and automated processes Support testing, validation, and adoption of automated workflows Present findings, recommendations, and process impacts to leadership and stakeholders
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required 8–10+ years of experience in business process engineering and automation Experience supporting federal IT or operational environments Strong facilitation, analysis, and stakeholder communication skills
Preferred Skills
Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, Powershell, Python, etc Experience with workflow automation tools Familiarity with federal governance
