What To Expect The Test Equipment Engineer will work to sustain & improve test equipment and software in both individual and team settings. The candidate will leverage software and hardware knowledge extensively to troubleshoot & create robust testing infrastructure for interfacing with Tesla products and reporting out results to databases. They will work with production team to learn constraints on testing, and work with vehicle design teams to define optimized test specifications to balance yield and quality. The Test Equipment Engineer may be called to assist with the electrical/mechanical design of the tester itself, as well as to support debug/validation efforts prior to releasing the equipment to production. The Test Equipment Engineer will also be responsible for fully documenting all aspects of the projects.
What You'll Do
Troubleshoot complex systems and identify issues by reviewing electrical diagrams & code Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, process engineering, quality engineering, and maintenance engineering to ensure manufacturing test equipment meet and exceed expectations. Understand shortcomings when expectations are not met Design & implement electrical, mechanical and/or software improvements to released test equipment Perform data analysis such as SPC and voice of the customer (VOC) discussions to understand challenges with manufacturing test equipment, and advocate for solutions that align with both equipment and production goals Define most efficient plan for testing, automating and improving focusing on time/cost reduction and low complexity to promptly release new automation and test equipment Lead uptime (HW reliability, software faults, maintenance schedules, etc.), and cycle time and FPY improvements on manufacturing test equipment Understand engineering first principles of test equipment and have a system level grasp of operations to serve as a key contact for the design team and site operations Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience Experience troubleshooting electronic circuits. Must be comfortable around high voltage systems Experience designing electrical schematics, with an emphasis on safety for the operator and the product Solid understanding of production equipment design issues such as user friendliness, serviceability, ruggedness, noninvasive electrical test connections, etc. Exposure to a wide variety of test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition and I/O devices (ie, pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.) Experience with Hipot and Leak testers is a plus Experience working with CAN and analyzing CAN traces is a plus Previous experience working with Linux is a plus (Bash scripting desired) Ability to read and understand software code (e.g., Python, Golang, C, C++, LabVIEW)
