What To Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to contribute to the continuous improvement of Manufacturing Test Equipment for the Megafactory Production Engineering team. In this role, you will aid in deployment, sustaining, and optimization of test equipment for Megapack production lines. You will also be responsible for supporting electrical, software, and control debugging tasks, as well as driving the continuous improvement of test and automation equipment. What You'll Do
Design mechanical and electrical hardware for test equipment which facilitates the development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) unit components (Battery module, Power Conversion System, Thermal System and Inverter) Work in a fast-paced environment where you will have the opportunity to exercise your creative thinking skills to solve complex problems Lead uptime (HW reliability, software faults, maintenance schedules, etc.), cycle time and FPY improvements on manufacturing test equipment Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Maintenance Engineering to ensure manufacturing test equipment meets and exceeds expectations. Understand shortcomings when expectations are not met Identify areas of risk and work quickly to develop prototypes and test methods to mitigate risk Maintain and optimize production test software to improve test coverages and operational efficiency in Megapack manufacturing lines Perform preemptive data analysis to understand challenges with manufacturing test equipment and advocate for solutions that align with production goals Work closely with product design teams to define optimized test specifications that balance yield and quality Support troubleshooting and validation efforts to ensure the sustained performance of the equipment Take responsibility for fully documenting all aspects of the projects you work on, ensuring clear and comprehensive documentation
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience 3+ years of relevant industry experience in test equipment development and optimization Exposure to a wide variety of test and automation high-voltage systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, safety, and I/O devices (i.e., pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.) and familiarity with high voltage power electronics and battery systems Ability to read and understand software code (e.g., GoLang, Python, C, C++) Experience working with and debugging common communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, SPI and ability to interpret traces Experience with Linux operating systems and familiarity with Linux Ubuntu distributions, standard file structure, command line interface operation Knowledge of mechanical and electrical tools (voltmeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies) and must be hands-on (assembly, fabrication/modification, instrumentation, wiring) Contributing to large codebases using git or any other version control system Ability to work well under pressure, managing competing priorities and tight deadlines effectively Willingness to support 24/7 operations as needed

Expected Compensation
$93,600 - $140,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
