Role & seniority: Storage Test and Qualification Engineer (mid-level to senior; requires 4+ years in a storage hardware validation environment)
Stack/tools: HDD/SSD/Tape technologies; storage software stack; test automation and scripting; data collection/analysis; experience testing physical, functional, and software interfaces; cross-functional collaboration with ODMs/JDMs
Create test plans, coordinate resources, and perform system-level functional, performance, and reliability testing for storage devices and related hardware
Analyze results, validate against Google standards, and collaborate with external and internal teams to ensure quality
Report bugs, drive corrective actions, and organize data to improve the qualification process
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
4+ years in a storage hardware validation environment
Understanding of storage systems (physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, thermal) and testing interfaces
Familiarity with HDD/SSD/Tape technologies and supporting software stack
Ability to script/automate test algorithms and analyze results
Strong communication skills
Master’s or PhD in relevant field
Experience collecting and organizing data to reproduce results and explain findings
Deeper experience with end-to-end validation
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
4 years of experience working in a Storage Hardware Validation technical environment.

As a Storage Test and Qualification Engineer, you will qualify new Hard Disk Drive, Solid-state Drive (HDDs, SSDs), Tape media and all of the supporting software stack behind them, for successful usage in Google data centers.

You will plan for and execute these tests at scale in the most effective way possible. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
