POSITION PURPOSE

  • The RT/RTR Level II Technician is responsible for executing conventional radiographic testing (RT) and radiographic testing using Real Time Radiography (RTR) inspections in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications. The technician will ensure all inspection activities are conducted safely and efficiently, maintain accurate documentation, and mentor Trainee and Level I technicians in the field.

Note: This position requires availability for overtime, on-call shifts, and travel across project sites in the U.S.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform radiographic testing (RT) and Real Time Radiographic (RTR) inspections to evaluate material integrity and pipeline welding compliance.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain RT/RTR equipment in accordance with procedures.
  • Ensure proper setup of work areas including radiation boundaries and safety surveillance.
  • Review and complete all documentation in compliance with client, company, and regulatory standards.
  • Interpret radiographic images and report findings clearly and accurately.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and assistants.
  • Adhere strictly to radiation safety protocols and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders regarding inspection results and issues.
  • Represent Applus professionally in interactions with clients, auditors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Other duties as assigned in alignment with operational needs.
  • Applies testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications for both conventional and advanced NDT methods. (API, AMSE)
  • Adhering to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of NDT techniques, services and procedures.
  • Ability to setup, calibrate, test, interpret and evaluate findings on required NDT equipment in compliance with codes, standards and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of radiation safety and operational field requirements regarding radiation safety.
  • Ability to read technical documents and procedures and apply them in the field.
  • Excellent report writing and review skills.
  • Excellent customer service focus, ability to quickly build strong working relationships with business partners and colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills matched with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or (GED).
  • 3-5 years’ experience in NDT inspection.
  • State Radiographer Card (full card required X-ray/Gamma, Trainer Plus).
  • Past experience with RTR
  • Current CR/DR, RTR Level II Certification / Additional Certifications a plus (, MT, PT, UTT) a plus.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check / drug screening.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Required to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials in various working environments.
  • Commonly exposed to walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally required to work in noisy/loud working environments especially on project sites.
  • Required to work overtime during the week and weekend depending on project scope and work volume.
  • Occasional to frequent travel will be required thru-out the US.
  • Working conditions will vary between project locations.
