Independent Verification and Validation Engineer

Work Location: Huntsville, AL

Schedule: Full Time IronMountain Solutions, LLC is searching for a Independent Verification and Validation Engineer to support a customer located in Huntsville, AL. Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) Engineers support the evaluation, verification, and validation of software used in missile systems, radar systems, and other mission and safety critical platforms.

Job Duties

  • Perform activities associated with software integrity, airworthiness, as well as lifecycle assurance to ensure software compliance with technical, safety, quality, and program requirements.
  • Perform independent verification and validation (IV&V) of complex software systems.
  • Evaluate software compliance with airworthiness, safety, cybersecurity, and quality standards.
  • Assess software integrity, robustness, reliability, and associated risks.
  • Analyze requirements, design artifacts, source code, and test results for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Review engineering documentation for correctness, traceability, and consistency across the development lifecycle.
  • Identify software anomalies, risks, and non-conformance, document findings and support resolution activities.
  • Participate in system reviews, certification efforts, audits, and major program milestones.
  • Utilize or develop automation tools to enhance verification, analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout development and integration phases.
  • Support artifact reviews, test analysis, and preparation of technical documentation.
  • Learn and apply Department of War customer processes, system concepts (e.g., missile and radar systems), and relevant industry standards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

Education and General Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related technical field. Relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in system safety and/or software safety engineering.
  • Experience with DoW systems and defense platforms.
  • Familiarity with military standards such as DO-178, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-498, IEEE software standards, or equivalent.
  • Experience with airworthiness or safety-critical software environments.
  • Experience with software automation, scripting, or test frameworks.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Experience producing and briefing safety documentation to Government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety efforts across multiple stakeholder teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and risk based decision making abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in safety-critical environments.
  • Clear, concise technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Sound judgment and a strong commitment to mission and personnel safety.
  • Experience with embedded software and firmware safety

Required Travel: 10%
