Position Description
CGI Malaysia is seeking an IT Automation Engineer to design, build and operate automation solutions that reduce manual effort, improve reliability and accelerate delivery across a client's IT environment. You will develop scripts and workflows, integrate systems via APIs, apply security best practices, and ensure automation is monitored, maintainable and scalable.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Automation Design & Delivery Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions to eliminate manual and repetitive tasks. Develop scripts using PowerShell, Python, Bash, and JavaScript. Implement automation and orchestration solutions using RPA platforms or similar tools. Integrations & Operations Integrate systems and applications via APIs; implement robust input validation and error handling. Monitor, log, and manage automated workflows with proper alerting, rollback and recovery mechanisms. Optimize performance and ensure scalability of automation solutions. Security, Governance & Documentation Apply security best practices including credential management, secrets handling, and least-privilege access. Maintain automation documentation, runbooks, and lifecycle management (testing, versioning, approvals, releases). Work with infrastructure, application and security teams to prioritize automation backlogs and improve operational maturity. Engineering Practices Use Git for version control; follow code review, branching and release practices. Contribute to CI/CD patterns for automation assets where applicable (pipelines, package management, artifact promotion).
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
Strong scripting and programming skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash, JavaScript). Experience with automation and orchestration tools (RPA preferred). Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems. Experience with virtualization, containers, and cloud platforms. Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and logging systems. Understanding of security fundamentals. Experience using Git for version control. 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in automation / platform / operations engineering (or equivalent).
Strong Advantage
Experience with configuration management and IaC tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and scheduling/orchestration platforms. Experience with Microsoft Graph API / RESTful integrations and working with ITSM processes (incidents, changes). Exposure to RPA governance, bot lifecycle management, and automation ROI measurement.
Travel & Work Style
Based primarily in Kuala Lumpur with on-site presence as required by the client and project needs. May require occasional after-hours / weekend support for planned changes, maintenance windows, or critical incidents. Comfortable working with global stakeholders across time zones and cultures.
